Job Summary:

Primary lead for all daily academic services and programs within the Department of Athletics.

Duties / Responsibilities

Individual serves as the primary lead for all daily academic services and programs within the Department of Athletics. As the academics lead, duties are carried out independently, including complex assignments without supervision, requiring significant expertise. Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as primary contact, including comprehensive one-on-one or group advisement and guidance, for student-athletes for the duration of the academic cycle, from prospect to graduate understanding the interrelationship and need for coordinated action within the total student-athlete services program. The incumbent will practice basic counseling techniques, and provide advisement concerning career, academic, learning, campus life and/or related issues.
  • Monitor, investigate and analyze student-athlete academic performance, progress towards degree and NCAA eligibility; including initial, transfer, and continuing eligibility.
  • Independently perform highly complex day-to-day student-athlete academic advising to determine appropriate coursework for progress towards degree while maintaining NCAA eligibility.
  • Using high-level analytical and human relation skills provide comprehensive advisement and mentoring to assist student- athletes to identify and address academic needs, with increased consideration for at-risk student-athlete challenges.
  • The incumbent will practice a high degree of judgment or persuasiveness, imagination and professional skills and knowledge in intercollegiate athletics, as well as a general understanding of the interrelations and need for coordinated action within CSUSB Athletics.
  • Utilize technology to maintain detailed and current student records including a program of study outline, transcript general education evaluation records, progress reports, advising contacts, referrals, and test scores.
  • In coordination with Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) and Senior Associate Director of Athletics, serve as a key member of NCAA Eligibility Certification Team.
  • Responsible for assessing and analyzing data to recognize specific needs to develop solutions in support of student-athlete success. Plan and implement creative solutions based on assessments and analysis.
