Oakwood University, a Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher learning, invites applications for the position of Athletics Director. The Athletics Director provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight of the University’s intercollegiate athletics program, ensuring alignment with the mission, values, and standards of Oakwood University and the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists.

Position Summary:

The Director of Athletics is responsible for the planning, development, supervision, and evaluation of all intercollegiate athletic programs, including budgeting, staffing, compliance facilities and student-athlete support. This role ensures competitive excellence, academic integrity, student-athlete development, fiscal accountability, and compliance with institutional, conference, and governing association requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the intercollegiate athletics program.
  • Ensure strict adherence and compliance with university policies, NAIA regulations, Title IX requirements, risk management, and institutional standards.
  • Hire, supervise and evaluate coaches, athletic staff, and support personnel.
  • Manage and oversee the athletics department budget, including athletic venues, equipment, financial planning and resources allocation.
  • Collaborate with Enrollment Services, Student Development, and Academic Affairs on recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Design and execute a comprehensive annual fundraising plan, focusing on major gifts, corporate sponsorship, and the development of an athletic booster club.
  • Promote academic success, personal development, sportsmanship, and spiritual growth of student athletes.
