Athletics Photographer
position reports directly to the Director of Creative Services and works to:
Capture and manage photo content for App State Athletics, including game days, non-game day events, team practices, studio photography shoots, community events and other assignments
Oversee student workers, managing their photo assignments and serving as a mentor and teacher
Uphold brand and preset standards
Ensure consistency of athletics photography across sports and departments
Enhance the artistry and creativity of App State sports photography
Work closely with the Director of Creative Services on photography and visual identity strategy for App State Athletics
Work closely with the creative and external team members, including graphic designers, videographers, communications, marketing, etc.
Interact with sport coaches and student-athletes on photography needs related to recruiting, game days, practices/workouts, program branding, etc.
Assist with shaping the visual storytelling of App State sport programs, student-athletes and coaches
Organize, manage, and process internal and external photography and imaging requests
Collaborate with university photographers
Other duties as assigned
Commitment to and compliance with the University’s and Department of Athletics policies and procedures as well as the Sun Belt Conference and
NCAA
constitutions, bylaws, legislation and regulations
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Knowledge and experience with studio lighting and setup
Knowledge and experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Lightroom, Photoshop, etc.)
Knowledge of both Canon and Sony cameras
Demonstrated creative and artistic ability with visual content
Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
Proficiency with technology and social media
Must be able to travel and work long hours on occasion
Experience with organizing photoshoots, managing a photo database and traveling with sports teams
Experience with social media strategy and best practices
Bachelor’s degree
2-3 years of experience in sports photography
