Role Summary: Beloit College Athletics is seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, and engaging Multi-Sport Color Commentator to join the Buccaneer Sports Network. As the “expert voice” of our live broadcasts, the Color Commentator will provide in-depth analysis, strategic insight, and compelling storytelling to enhance the viewing experience for alumni, parents, and fans.

The successful candidate will cover a variety of NCAA Division III sports, including football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and the newly added ice hockey and flag football programs. This role requires a “Beloiter” spirit—characterized by curiosity, resilience, and a passion for the student-athlete experience.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

Live Analysis: Provide expert “color” commentary during live-streamed home events, complementing the play-by-play announcer with tactical analysis, player background, and statistical context.
Pre-Game Preparation: Research rosters, season trends, and opponent history for both Beloit and visiting MWC/NACC/WIAC teams. Conduct brief pre-game interviews with coaches or student-athletes when applicable.
Narrative Storytelling: Highlight the “student” in student-athlete by sharing anecdotes about academic achievements, campus involvement, and the unique culture of Beloit College.
Broadcast Collaboration: Work seamlessly with the play-by-play announcer and the student-led production crew to ensure high-quality transitions, sponsor reads, and promotional mentions.
Brand Ambassadorship: Maintain a professional and neutral yet enthusiastic tone that aligns with the values of the Midwest Conference and Beloit College’s mission.
Post-Game Coverage: Assist in post-game wrap-ups, identifying “Players of the Game” and summarizing key turning points for the archived broadcast.

Credentials and Experience:

Knowledge Base: Deep understanding of the rules, strategies, and nuances of multiple sports (specifically Football, Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, and Hockey).
Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal communication with the ability to think and speak quickly under the pressure of a live broadcast. A clear, engaging, and professional on-air “voice.”
Technical Familiarity: Comfortable working with basic headset/mixer setups and familiar with (or willing to learn) the Hudl/BlueFrame streaming interface.
Education/Experience:
- Professional track: Previous experience in sports broadcasting, journalism, or former experience as a college-level athlete/coach.
- Student track: Current Beloit College student majoring in Media Studies, Communications, or a related field with a strong interest in sports media.
Reliability: Ability to work evenings and weekends according to the Buccaneers’ home schedule.

Ability to understand and appreciate the mission of a residential, liberal arts college and to work well, in a fast-paced environment, with diverse faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
Ability to develop, and to contribute to, work environments welcoming to people from a diverse variety of backgrounds and experiences.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively coordinate with game officials and athletic communications staff.
Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing game situations, weather conditions, and shifting athletic schedules including evenings and weekends.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and react instantly to on-field/on-court action without immediate supervision.
Knowledge of customer service standards and the ability to maintain professionalism when interacting with officials, coaches, and spectators.
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding team information and safeguard the integrity of official game records.
Willingness to look for improvements in game-day technology and scoring procedures to enhance the efficiency of the athletics department.
