The Program Coordinator I is responsible for providing academic support for student-athletes while serving as a Tutorial Coordinator. Provides guidance and mentorship to student-athletes while working collaboratively with academic professionals to create a highly effective learning environment with a primary focus on student development. Additionally, plays an active role in providing student-athlete academic support.

Position Details: Employee will supervise (100 +) Academic Tutors/Mentors and (2 - 4) Student Interns. May require work beyond normal working hours, weekends, and holidays.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years Athletic Academic Advising at the collegiate, high school or junior college level or athletic administration experience working with student-athletes at those same levels
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's degree
Two or more years athletic academic advising at the collegiate, high school, or junior college level or athletic administration experience working with student-athletes at those same levels
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software
General knowledge of NCAA rules
Ability to comprehend oral and written instructions
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Responsibilities:
Tutor Coordinator - Oversees and coordinates the entire Tutorial Program. Provides guidance and mentorship to student-athletes while working collaboratively with academic professionals to create a highly effective learning environment with a primary focus on student development. Coordinates program communications and marketing. Responds to inquiries regarding program offerings. Develops, implements, and communicates clear goals for the academic tutors working with student-athletes. Recruits, interviews, hires, trains all part-time student-athlete tutors, and assigns them to student-athletes. Monitors and evaluates the academic tutoring staff according to established expectations and performance. Provides appropriate educational training for academic tutoring staff and enforces rules appropriately. Develops and updates training materials and deliver training sessions. Maintains the scheduling of all academic tutoring appointments, which includes filling requests, canceling, or rescheduling appointments as necessary and monitoring session feedback to ensure support provided is appropriate at each tutoring session. Communicates with students, tutors, and staff members about appointments and addressing any concerns. Monitors part-time employee’s hours to ensure all staff stay under the department’s maximum amount (19 for non-students and 20 for students). Consolidates information from the tutor reporting system (Navigate) and Workday to ensure all payments to employees are accurate. Provides a wage report at the end of each month to the Associate AD for Academics in order to monitor spending. Assists in preparation and monitoring of budgets for programs and events.
Academic Caseload - Provides academic support to assigned caseload of student athletes with diagnosed learning disabilities, academic accommodations, or developmental needs in the areas of reading and/or writing. Communicates the academic needs of assigned caseload of student-athletes frequently with scholastic supervisors and other Nye Academic Staff. Assists the Educational Specialists with the Texas Success Initiative.
Compliance - Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations. Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations concerning student-athletes: conduct, appearance, road games, punctuality and other areas as deemed appropriate. Provides appropriate educational training for academic staff and enforces rules appropriately. Performs other duties as assigned.
