Additional hours will be required to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This job is not suitable for remote work and is expected to work regular on-site hours. Travel may be required.
Purpose
The purpose of the Broadcast Engineer is to provide engineering support in the technical operations of Texas Athletics In-Venue Productions, ESPN Broadcasts, and other Texas Athletics related events.
Responsibilities
Collaborate in providing technical oversight for events produced by Texas Athletics in collaboration with full-time and student assistant staff.
Sets up Audio Video (AV) equipment at remote facilities and ensures proper signal flow back to the central facility.
Serves as the Engineer-In-Charge (EIC) for Broadcasts and In-Venue Video Board Productions and ensures the control rooms, displays, streams, and all related equipment are functioning correctly.
Assists in supervising and educating the student workforce in the proper setup and operating procedures of broadcast equipment.
Troubleshoots at the component and system level and provides operational assistance in broadcast, IT, and communications systems.
Serves as a liaison between internal television operations and external television network broadcasts.
Provides operational support of in-stadium/venue digital signage and associated electronic components and provides support for live event technical setup and management of operations systems.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Audio Engineering, Radio-Television-Film or related field. One year or more of relevant experience in production engineering, information technology, or audio visual disciplines. Relevant work-related experience including digital/linear level live remote or studio broadcast productions as engineer. Fiber and coax cable termination skills. Experience with video switchers, graphics platforms, LED displays and components, video instant replay systems, and broadcast cameras. Ability to originate, select and convey comprehensive technical information, and artistic and aesthetic concepts in unique situations both verbally and in writing. Ability to make recommendations as required and suggest and support alternative approaches. Knowledge of equipment capabilities and the generally accepted practices and principles inherent to broadcast television, radio and emerging media production. Ability to cultivate and maintain professional relationships with client, or customers (those who receive services) by listening to the client/customer, and understanding and responding to identified needs. Ability to assist coworkers or other staff with resolving complex issues. Ability to actively lead, participate and contribute as a member of a team toward the completion of established goals. Ability to drive a UT or rental vehicle. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Three years or more of relevant experience in production engineering, information technology, or audio visual disciplines. Broadcast camera operations including operational control panels, color, shading and lens tuning. Knowledge of data networking and IP-based broadcast production systems. Strong understanding of Audio over IP technology and architecture. Knowledge of SMPTE 2110 standards, Dante and Ravenna protocols, and basic network troubleshooting. Knowledge of NCAA and SEC rules and regulations.
