Position Summary Information
James Madison University, a Division I member of the NCAA and Sun Belt Conference, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Broadcast Engineer to provide technical support for in-house ESPN productions, in-venue LED Video boards and audio systems to support James Madison University’s (JMU) live events. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of Live Broadcast Production with a focus on Ross equipment, Daktronics equipment and software as well as experience in audio engineering. The Broadcast Engineer for James Madison University will serve as a valuable resource for the university to ensure that all their broadcast and video board events are flawless and have the best possible outcome. This is a part-time position and does not include benefits.
Duties include but are not limited to: Maintain Audio and video systems at James Madison University’s athletic venues. Troubleshoot technical issues with equipment and software. Collaborate with other technical staff and broadcast personnel to ensure high-quality live broadcasts of sporting and live events. Provide operational support for audio consoles and other equipment to ensure high quality sound for live events. Provide gameday support for both videoboard and ESPN productions (events may be simultaneous). Maintain and repair equipment as needed. Assist with configuration, patching, and setup/teardown of equipment before and after events. Provide training and support to other staff members and volunteers on the use of equipment. Maintains a clean workshop environment. Preventative and routine maintenance on all equipment including software updates (PM). Assists with new equipment integration. Demonstrated understanding of network and server technologies including IP routing and switching technology. Demonstrated understanding of Dante Audio and integration with Madi and analog audio. Demonstrated understanding of fiber connections, workflows, and multiplexing. Identify areas of equipment
Required qualifications include: Experience in live broadcast production and audio engineering Demonstrated ability in component level troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills. Working knowledge of both digital and analog video/audio systems, RF and ENG microwave, field and studio cameras and decks. Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and overnights. Additional Considerations: Experience with Daktronics equipment and software. Experience with Ross equipment and software including Xpression.
