Full Time / Part Time : Temporary Full-Time
Other Conditions : Position is a temporary casual hire position and offers no benefits, 89 day hire. Hours may vary from 30-40 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
*Under the supervision of Assistant Athletics Director for Athletic Training and Student-Athlete Well-Being, the Performance and Sport Scientist will plan, implement, and oversee sports science initiatives, for assigned sports, in order to promote student-athlete health and lead to improved performance. This position will collaborate with other support staff including sports medicine, athletic training, mental health, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, and coaching staff to assist in the development and implementation of best practices, vetting of emerging technology, and providing innovative approaches to student-athlete health and performance.
*Provide daily management of performance technologies such as load management measuring systems, sleep, recovery, and readiness measurements, including data collection, and data analysis.
*Create reports of requested analytics from these technologies and communicate information to the sports performance, sports medicine, and sports nutrition staff as requested.
*Provide detailed individualized and team athletic profiles to compare athletes amongst each other and to NCAA normative values, which assists in the decision-making process.
*Collaborate with strength and conditioning , sports medicine, athletic training, mental health, and sports nutrition department staff to formulate actionable solutions to relevant performance problems.
*Collaborate with strength and conditioning, sports medicine, athletic training, mental health, and sports nutrition department staff to develop return-to-play progressions and assessments to improve outcomes.
*Assist in recruiting efforts by providing tours and presentations as requested by the coaching staff or recruiting staff.
*Provide annual presentations for teams on topics that assist in the pursuit of peak athletic performance.
*Promote and maintain an environment where the physical, mental, social and academic well-being of all student-athletes are a priority.
*Work a flexible schedule (work on weekends, nights and holidays as needed) to accommodate teams and recruits visiting campus.
*Responsible for performing the duties of a Campus Security Authority as defined by University policy and federal law with regards to the Clery Act.
*Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawai‘i policies.
*Maintain collaborative working relationships with administrators, staff and coaches in the department, other college offices, and appropriate relationships with members of the media, donors, and other individuals interested in the Athletics Department.
*Know, recognize and comply with the laws, policies, rules and regulations governing the University of Hawai‘i and its employees, and the rules of the NCAA and affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future.
*Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if there is reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees or students, have occurred or will occur.

Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in exercise science, sports science or related field and three (3) years professional experience with responsibilities for intercollegiate athletics sports science programming; or equivalent education/training or experience.
Exceptional communication skills and ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing and spreadsheet software.
Ability to work and interact effectively with people from all backgrounds
Ability to utilize databases including the creation of and interaction with Athlete Management Systems
Considerable knowledge of the application of various performance technologies such as GPS, barbell tracking, speed monitoring etc.
Considerable knowledge in kinesiology / exercises science / strength and conditioning performance principles
Considerable knowledge in statistical programming language such as R and Python
Considerable working knowledge of SQL
Experience in collecting, analyzing, and visualizing 3D motion capture data
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Track record of visualizing kinetic and kinematic data in novel and intuitive ways
Considerable knowledge of human pose and computer vision models
Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays during athletic related scheduled events and practices.
Ability to handle confidential information with a high level of tact, discretion, and diplomacy.
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

Certified Performance and Sports Scientist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association
