Title: Chief of Staff, Football
Â
Occupational Summary:
Reporting directly to the Football Head Coach, the Chief of Staff provides executive support in a one-on-one working relationship. The Chief of Staff serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external constituencies on all matters pertaining to the Head Coach. The Chief of Staff must be creative and enjoy working within an entrepreneurial environment that is mission-driven, results-driven and community oriented. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required with 3 years minimum experience working in college athletics or a comparable field.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
· Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
· Highly organized and the ability to multi-task and prioritize efficiently
· Knowledge of principles and techniques relative to social and athletic department communication

Essential Functions:
· Anticipate Head Coach’s needs and proactively bring together appropriate people and other resources to support the Head Coach in addressing issues.
· Prepare financial and operational reports and analyses reflecting progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Analyze past trends and project future needs to forecast and manage the budget.
· Independently develop presentations for Head Coach to deliver.
o Conduct research, develop content, and create effective presentation.
· Handle confidential information which would have immediate impact on the company operations, performance, or value if shared beyond its intended audience.
· Interpret departmental policies and procedures, making decisions on specific operating problems and issuing instructions in the name of the departmental and divisional head in accordance with departmental precedents and policies.
· May represent Duke and/or the Head Coach on internal or external committees.
· Serve as supervisor to assigned staff within the football program.
o Responsible for recommending and executing various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, promotions and disciplinary actions. Monitor attendance and automated time reports.
· Provide direction and prioritization standards for the screening of the executive's mail, email, voicemail and appointments using expert judgment and knowledge.
· Plan, organize and coordinate the administrative aspects of the Head’s Coach Office functions.
