| Nature & Purpose of Position |
Performs moderately complex administrative and supervisory program work for Sam Houston State University Athletic Academics.

| Primary Responsibilities |
Oversees the work of assigned Academic and Compliance staff. Oversees all lead tutors and makes hiring decisions for all tutors. Prepares and reviews reports on the effectiveness of program activities. Assists in the completion of continuing National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) eligibility certification. Assists with preparation, submission and validation of data required for the NCAA, APR and Graduation Rates, and other academic institutional reports as assigned. Confers with staff on program issues and problems and recommends solutions. Acts as a liaison between student-athletes and faculty, academic departments, and student services personnel across campus. Communicates student-athletes’ academic progress, grade checks and class attendance to coaches. Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates programs. Conducts comprehensive academic advising and oversees academic support programs. Monitors and tracks athletic eligibility and student-athlete academic progress and works with on campus advisors to ensure progress toward graduation for student-athletes. Participates in the recruiting process by meeting with prospective student-athletes in assigned sports. Recommends program guidelines, procedures, polices, rules, and regulations. Oversees the textbook rental process and acts as the liaison between Athletics and the University Bookstore. Assists in setting policies & procedures for study hall, tutoring and academic monitoring. Develops and assesses programs. Provides assistance in course scheduling (registration) and works with all coaches to build out practice chart for the following semester in order to build out class schedules far in advance. Develops programs focused on retention and graduation of student-athletes. Assists in the development of student-athlete orientation, career, personal and professional development programs. Develops academic plans for student-athletes. Works with Academic Success Center to build out Summer Bridge program for incoming student-athletes. Interprets policies, rules, and regulations and ensures they are followed. Maintains current and accurate knowledge of university catalogs for all majors, minors and pre-professional programs to determine how these elements impact continuing academic eligibility for athletic participation. Provides information to student-athletes, coaches and University stakeholders regarding institutional polices, academic requirements and athletic eligibility. Performs other related duties as assigned.
