The Coordinator of Athletics Strategic Communications, under the direction of an Assistant Director or above, assists in the design, development and implementation of departmental processes and/or programs. Recommends policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs.
Essential Duties
Sports Information Director/Media Relations (60%)The Coordinator of Strategic Communications will serve as the media relations contact for assigned sports and departments, serving as the point of contact for teams, coaches and administrators as needed. This person will coordinate interviews and work with external media entities including print, radio, social media, web and tv for local, regional and national requests. In this role, the Coordinator of Strategic Athletics Communications will tie creative, promotional and informational content into a cohesive message benefitting teams and student-athletes. Interviews, press releases, recaps, feature stories, social media content, video and photo content will be used to deliver this information. On a skill and task-level, the Coordinator of Strategic Communications acts as the lead statistician for assigned sports, responsible for doing live stats at events while training student and part-time staff as needed. This person may be responsible for scoreboard, table crew and other in-game statistical duties. The Coordinator of Strategic Communications will assist with managing the aesthetics and function of the athletic department’s website. Additionally, this role is tasked with generating almanacs, quick facts, game notes and other published material for in-house and external uses. Creative (40%)This person will handle the day-to-day creative responsibilities for content creation used for in-house, social media and web. The Coordinator of Strategic Communications uses Adobe Suite software, Sidearm Sports backend, Stat Crew, Genius Live Stats and has a working understanding of SID gameday duties and broadcast operations. As needed, this person will shoot and edit both videos and photos, working on the cutting edge of new media. Additionally, this position will offer support on live streams and broadcasts.

Keep an archive of UNF records from local media, submit information on athletes in various sports for athlete honors through NCAA, Conference, CoSIDA, and governing sports bodies. Build and maintain photo files; provide information to other on-campus departments for public relation brochures and publications, catalogs, annual reports, etc.
A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization; or a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and two years of experience directly related to the job functions.

Employee must be able to work with a wide diversity of people; must be able to exercise excellent judgment on a daily basis and to reflect the university’s image and desires in the area of athletics; must possess strong writing skills; strong computer skills/knowledge of various software. Requires a positive, self-motivated person with excellent communication skills. Must have knowledge of sports information practices/procedures. Must be able to carry heavy, cumbersome equipment such as computer, printer scoreboard box, media guides, etc. Must be able to work flexible, sometimes long, hours including holidays and weekends. Some travel with UNF athletic teams will be necessary in the performance of position responsibilities.
The holder of this position is responsible for any NCAA and Conference bylaws and guidelines that a member of the UNF Athletic Compliance Department provides in addition to all UNF regulations. The individual must also assure that NCAA, Conference and UNF regulations are followed to the best of their knowledge and any violations thereof are reported to UNF Athletic Compliance.This position requires a background check. In conjunction with the University’s policy, this position may also require a credit check.This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). This position has been designated as a CSA because it involves significant responsibility for student and campus activities and/or responsibility for campus security. As such, any person in this position must report to the University Police Department a crime or an incident that might be a crime that he/she becomes aware of. This position has a reporting requirement because the University believes that responsibility for students, campus activities and/or campus security will make the holder of this position someone members of the University community will see as an authority figure and someone to whom they can seek help. A CSA is not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal incident actually took place. A CSA’s responsibility is a duty to report. All positions designated as CSAs are required to complete an online or in-person training session. For more information concerning the training sessions or CSAs, please contact the University Police Department at (904) 620-2800 or the Office of the General Counsel at (904) 620-2828.The holder of this position is designated as a “Responsible Employee” pursuant to their role under Title IX. Therefore, the incumbent must promptly report allegations of sexual misconduct, sexual violence, and child sexual abuse by or against any student, employee, contractor, or visitor to the University’s Title IX Administrator or any divisional Title IX Coordinator.
