Coordinator - Student Athletic Insurance

Utah Valley University is seeking a part-time Student Athletic Insurance Coordinator who is detail-oriented and committed to supporting student-athlete well-being. This role offers the opportunity to play a vital part in ensuring student-athletes receive the care and coverage they need by managing injury claims, coordinating with healthcare providers, and partnering closely with athletic trainers and compliance teams. The position combines administrative expertise with meaningful collaboration, contributing to eligibility processes, policy development, and cost-saving initiatives. Summary of Responsibilities

• Investigates, researches, and processes all student injury accident claims, coordinating payment between the Student Athlete primary insurance and the UVU secondary insurance provider.
  
• Negotiate pricing with providers, including imaging, physical therapy, physician services, etc. Work insurance appeals and coordinates benefits between the provider and insurance carriers. Provide additional case information when requested by insurance carriers, track down information from athletes or policy holders when needed.
  
• Verifies primary insurance coverage for all UVU Student Athletes and confirms that providers are in network for the applicable primary insurance. Enroll athletes in an appropriate primary plan when they are not appropriately covered.
  
• Collaborates with Athletic Trainers and compliance staff to clear student athletes. Upload information into EMR for quick reference and retrieval.
  
• Acquire durable medical equipment through insurance or procurement, & other duties as assigned.
  

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate's degree; OR any combination of education and/or experience related to the summary of duties totaling two years of directly related experience in insurance claims.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge:

• Must demonstrate knowledge of the insurance claims process and insurance premium billing
• Must demonstrate knowledge of NCAA regulations governing healthcare insurance.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology is required.

Skills: - Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Must demonstrate skill in organizing a complex and diverse business insurance environment.

Abilities: - Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment and be able to work a moderately flexible schedule when necessary. - Must be able to work independently with little or, at times, no supervision. - Must demonstrate the ability to work with a wider range of personalities and under very different and/or difficult circumstances.
