Handles direct programming at the rink, including instructional, adult hockey, adaptive ice sports, and special events. Duties include hiring staff, facilitating registration, and overseeing curriculum while monitoring and ensuring customer satisfaction. Promote programming and events by working with campus partners. Organize and implement Intramural Broomball, Hockey and Curling leagues. Create and execute student programming.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in recreation, sports management or marketing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with ice arena programming, equipment and operations. One year’s experience managing personnel. Strong organizational, marketing and communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse constituent groups.
Direct all instructional programs within the Syracuse University Skating School, Learn-to-Skate, adult learn-to-play, sled hockey, and freestyle/ice-dance. Manage program curriculum and instructor compliance as required by the University and the national governing bodies. Hire train, schedule and supervise (30) program staff. Mange program registration and operations. Maintain Wellness Portal as it pertains to each instructional program. Promote programming through campus partners, the University events calendar, and the Wellness Portal. Direct the Winter Skating Exhibition including scheduling, budgeting, communicating with internal and external participants. Serve as a manager on-duty during all assigned work shifts. This includes training and supervision of student operators and pro-shop staff, skate guards. Communicate with and train staff to properly execute setup, check-in, and other tasks during programming. Assist with organizing and implement Intramural Broomball, Intramural Hockey and Adult Hockey leagues including recruiting, hiring, training and payroll functions for scorekeepers and referees. Enforcement of rules and maintenance of website and portal for leagues. Manage disciplinary issues and actively promoting a positive environment. Serve as rink’s USA Hockey Organization representative and ensure compliance with USA Hockey requirements. Serve as manager on duty during select Intercollegiate and Club hockey games and manage all functions of pre-game ice prep, in game resurfacing, and coordination with Athletics staff. Assist with special projects including the studio rink and the main-ice curling installation.
