Rowan University, a NCAA Division III member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference, is accepting applications for the position of Deputy Athletic Director for Strategic Initiatives and External Engagement.
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, this position is an executive leader on the Director’s Senior Management Team and will be charged with oversight of all external units and strategic initiatives comprised but not limited to revenue generation, brand enhancement, community and corporate engagement, marketing and communications and alumni engagement for Rowan Athletics. With a focus on maximizing opportunities to enhance the student-athletes experience, this position will be expected to leverage existing relationships and identify new opportunities to enhance fan engagement, maximize revenue streams through corporate partnerships, NIL opportunities, sponsorships, merchandise, ticket sales, concessions and alumni giving.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provides leadership and oversight in all aspects of external operations specific to revenue generation, brand enhancement, internal and external communication, sport specific marketing, community and corporate engagement, sponsorship, game day fan experience and alumni engagement.
Strategic planning and coordination of all major events and announcements, including milestones, press conferences, major personnel announcements, capital projects and the introduction of new strategic initiatives.

Provide leadership in the coordination and execution of Rowan Athletics Strategic Plan.
Implement a strategic plan for fan and university engagement, to increase student and staff attendance at Rowan athletics events.'
Lead the execution of the operational plan for Rowan’s Department of Athletics External Operations.
Collaborate with the Director of Athletics and Vice President of Marketing to amplify Rowan University’s message.
Identify and solicit corporate sponsorships to improve opportunities for student-athletes.
Work alongside the Director of Athletics to identify and solicit corporate sponsorship.
Identify and sell naming opportunities for new and existing athletic facilities.
Engage and partner with local, county and state officials to increase Rowan Athletics brand and presence throughout the state and regionally.
Collaborate with professional sport organizations to help amplify the message for Rowan Athletics and provide cutting-edge opportunities for our student-athletes.
Accountable for the successful achievement of goals and objectives of direct functional area(s).
Plans and manages budget for direct functional area(s).
Manages individual(s) and is responsible for hiring, setting performance standards, coaching and evaluating staff, and defining objectives that need to be achieved.
Key Additional Responsibilities:
Work closely with University Advancement, Marketing and other campus departments.
Coordinate annual appreciation events for community and corporate partners.
Ensure effective communication and brand marks of Rowan Athletics in all unit areas assigned and implement weekly/monthly/quarterly meetings as needed.
Develop an annual statistical report in all areas assigned.
Direct, supervise, or serve on special events (TV games, etc) run by the athletic department.
Responsible to know current NCAA, Conference, and University rules, regulations, and deadlines governing Athletic sports.
Establish and maintain a culture of excellence personally and within your respective unit(s),
Implement an annual evaluation and assessment of all staff and assigned coaches.
Attend annual professional development workshops, seminars and/or conferences to enhance overall professional skills.
Required Qualifications:
Strong and proven leader
Ability to work in a fast paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to demonstrate flexibility and work with various campus and community programs/partners
Experience in the field of athletics and ideally athletic academic success
Flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends
Possess excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrates ability and willingness to work as a team member and to work independently
Problem-solver with the initiative and follow-through skills; tact, diplomacy, and judgement in dealing with students, parents, faculty, and administrators
Detail oriented and demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree preferred in higher education, sport management, business, counseling, social work or a Bachelor's with 8 to 10 years of experience in collegiate athletics or related field
Experience as a unit director with budget oversight knowledge/experience
Demonstrated knowledge of developmental academic advising methodologies
Strategic thinker and executer with strong business acumen and entrepreneurial mindset
Salary & Benefits:
In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $157,000 to $183,000. When extending any salary offer, Rowan University considers many factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, work experience, education, training, key skills, internal equity, as well as market and other organizational considerations.
For eligible employees, benefits include comprehensive NJ State health, dental and retirement benefits, extensive accrued time off/paid holidays, and tuition reimbursement for employee, spouse, and dependents to attend Rowan University, Glassboro. (Tuition reimbursement will apply to undergraduate degrees only for spouse and dependents).
