Job Duties:
Administration:
Collaborates with the Director of Athletics in assessing the operational, fiscal, personnel and facility needs for Athletics.
Manages the day-to-day operations of the Department of Athletics.
Develops departmental policies and procedures to support the mission and work of Athletics.
Works collaboratively with the Director of Athletics to build a department organizational structure (i.e., identify positions, develop job descriptions, reporting structures, etc.).
Oversees responsible budget management within the Department of Athletics in collaboration with the AD, the Associate AD, and Business Manager.
Design and implement supervisory expectations and practices within the department.
Provides supervision and oversight for all aspects of assigned sport programs and support staff.
Represents the Department of Athletics as a liaison to appropriate campus departments.
Represents Bates as appropriate at conference and national functions and committees.
Participates in community service and civic projects as a representative of the College/Department of Athletics.
Serves as the point person for programs/projects as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Serves as administrative liaison to the athletics diversity committee and student athletes of color coalition.
Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
May include designation as Senior Woman Administrator and/or Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Athletics as appropriate.
Compliance, Staff Development, and Training:
Organizes and Administers the Department of Athletics’ NCAA compliance program: certifies eligibility, monitors coaches’ activities relative to rules compliance, and interacts with institutional and departmental staff members, student-athletes, and alumni to ensure compliance with NCAA, NESCAC, and institutional rules and regulations.
Develops and conducts an orientation program that provides information on Department of Athletics policies and procedures for all departmental personnel.
Develops and conducts NCAA rules education for all segments associated with the Department of Athletics, including but not limited to: prospective and current student-athletes, coaches, Department of Athletics staff/units, as well as all institutional personnel who assist with complying with NCAA rules (e.g. financial aid office, eligibility committee, etc.) and all other Bates employees and Friends of Bates Athletics.
Implements a comprehensive monitoring program that reviews amateurism, eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, awards and benefits, playing and practice seasons, and sports camps and clinics activities; maintain and create policies and procedures that guide monitoring efforts.
Monitors and reviews all NIL policies and agreements that student-athletes may enter into.
Manages transfer portal entries and processes as needed.
Conducts investigations of known and alleged rules violations, informing the Director of Athletics of all alleged/known violations.
Plans and creates professional development programming for head and assistant coaches.
Serves on search committees for coaches, staff and athletic administrators as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Student-Athletes
Provides direct oversight and vision to demonstrate the department’s commitment to student-athlete academic success and belonging at Bates College.
Collaborates with Associate Athletic Directors to design student-athlete and peak performance programming needs in support of the overall goal and philosophy of the Department of Athletics.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
Master’s degree required.
Certification in CPR/AED/Basic First Aid preferred or within three months of hire.
Current valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
Experience
7+ years of professional experience in athletic administration; experience working with NCAA Division III compliance is preferred.
Demonstrated experience creating policies, procedures and organization structures.
Demonstrated experience in daily department operations, including contest and facility management.
Demonstrated experience supervising and managing others, to include having difficult conversations.
Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and assessing staff development and training programs.
Demonstrated experience in budget management and financial planning.
College coaching/recruiting experience preferred.
Familiarity with the academic environment and higher education, preferably the liberal arts.
