Title: Director, Major Gifts Iron Dukes
Position Summary:
Duke University is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Director of Iron Dukes/Major Gifts for Athletics Development. This individual will report directly to the Assistant Director of Athletics/Iron Dukes Major Gifts, and will also supervise one Major Gifts Development Officer.
Essential Functions:
· Manage an active portfolio of 100-125 major gifts prospects to generate six and seven figure gifts to Duke Athletics. Annual goals will be established in consultation with the Assistant Director of Athletics/Iron Dukes Major Gifts for the number of personal contacts and closed gifts.
· Develop and analyze prospect strategies through contact and trip reports and evaluate new prospects and general correspondence daily in the cultivation of major gifts.
· Balance non-traditional work-week schedule to incorporate development travel and work sporting events, including some nights and weekends.
· Work with members of the athletic and university development staff to coordinate communication and solicitation of donors/prospects.
· Oversee one Major Gifts Development Officer, helping grow and mentor fundraising skills and techniques for direct report.
· Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Qualifications:
· Required: Bachelor’s degree. Three years of experience in Major Gifts Development and/or Athletics Development.
· Preferred: Master’s degree. Five years of experience in Major Gifts Development and/or Athletics Development.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
· High ethical standards and impeccable personal integrity.
· Self-motivation with desire and ambition to raise resources for Duke Athletics.
· Understanding of individual donor needs and perceptions.
· Deep knowledge of principles and techniques relevant to major gift fundraising.
· Friendly, courteous and proactive in donor interactions.
· Good teamwork.
· Ability to work in a highly dynamic and diverse university setting.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Education
Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Work requires five years experience in alumni affairs, public OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE. relations, fund raising, sales and promotions, marketing, student activities or a related field in order to acquire skills necessary to administer, coordinate and/or participate in general fund raising activities and proposal development.
