Position Summary: The Director of Athletic Bands is responsible for creating and maintaining a thriving athletic band program with a positive culture for current and prospective students. The Director is responsible for all aspects of the athletic band program, including (but not limited to) promotion, recruitment, organization, and instruction. The Director must contribute to and promote a positive learning and social environment for current and prospective Limestone students. This position will report to the Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics.

The Director must contribute to and promote a positive learning and social environment for current and prospective Limestone students. This position will report to the Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Director of Athletic Bands

Primary duties:

• Lead Limestone University’s plans to build a larger and energetic collegiate Athletic Bands consisting of the Marching Band and the Pep Band.
• Organize and execute rehearsals and performance events supporting Limestone Athletics (especially football and basketball) and the university at large. (e.g., Convocation, etc.), working directly with athletics administrators, cheer/dance coaches, Campus Housing, Physical Plant, and other relevant offices, persons, and non-Limestone entities as needed in planning such events.
• Manage athletic bands budget, including (a) tracking spending, storing receipts for all purchases, and reconciling credit card monthly credit card statements; (b) managing marching band scholarships by entering them into Jenzabar, communicating with finance staff as each are added or deleted, and making sure scholarships do not exceed caps (additions and subtractions happen regularly each month).
• When the need for the positions are approved, hire and oversee additional staff for the athletic bands as needed (e.g., color guard staff, drill, writing, arranging, uniform management, tech staff)
• Maintain athletic bands’ portion of equipment inventory. (instruments, uniforms, etc.)

Recruitment and Retention

• Organize and oversee all recruitment for the Athletic Bands, including (a) events such as Honor Bands, Sight-Reading Band, Virtual Honor Band, band member for a day at performance, recruitment performances, and exhibitor booths for conferences and open house days; (b) school visits; (c) recruitment lessons; and (d) maintaining prospective students lists for the band, providing assistance through the application and matriculation processes, and working with admissions administration and representatives.
• Recruitment of students through various methods via campus visits, band rehearsals, attendance at games, social media outreach,admissions event planning, and maintaining effective communication with students and music teachers. (The roster for the band will be set with annual goals to increase).

Supervisory Responsibilities: TBD

Competencies/Qualifications: Instrumental Music and band performance knowledge and skills commensurate with a bachelor’s’ degree in Music Education or Instrumental Conducting; familiarity with local school systems, music programs, and directors/teachers preferred.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in music field (preferably Music Education) or equivalent experience; Master’s degree in music field not required but preferred; At least 3 years of collegiate or high school teaching experience preferred.
