The University’s campus is located in Jersey City, a city rich with arts and culture, and less than 5 miles from New York City.Reporting to the Vice President for Student Life and Development (SSAO), the Director of Athletics is responsible for the overall management, administration, and leadership of Saint Peter’s University’s NCAA Division I athletics program.The successful candidate will have proven experience in supervision, fiscal management and budgeting, fundraising, compliance, strategic planning, athletic facility operations, event management, public relations, risk management, and general operations. The Director will be charged with hiring, mentoring, and guiding coaching and athletics staff. The Director will work closely with multiple internal and external constituencies to advance strategic University objectives and goals. The Athletic Director will exhibit collegiality, integrity, self-confidence, common sense, and sound judgment. This person must also possess the ability to make consistent and fair decisions based on available information, as well as work collaboratively with all members of the University community.Currently Salary Range: $138,000 – $158,000 based on experience
The Director’s responsibilities include assuring that all programs, coaches, staff, and student-athletes are following the policies, rules, and regulations of Saint Peter’s University, the NCAA, and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). This individual is also responsible for overseeing the athletic department budget and is directly involved with fundraising for the athletics program. Recognizing the important role of athletics in building enrollment, the Director will collaborate with the Vice President for Enrollment Management in growing the University’s enrollment through the strategic expansion of athletic programs. The director must be committed to a student-centered Jesuit/Catholic mission of the University, educational excellence, competitive success and integrity, and lead all coaches, staff, and student-athletes to achieve these same goals.
Previous coaching experience at the Division I collegiate level is preferred. Minimum of five years overseeing support staff and managing a team, department or equivalent. Knowledge of the principles of athletics administration, budgeting, and personnel management, NCAA, MAAC, and NWC rules and regulations, Title IX compliance, gender equity, and diversity. Commitment to a holistic student perspective and student-focused strategies from the point of recruitment through graduation. Commitment and sensitivity to the needs and dynamics of a diverse student body. Commitment to the Jesuit and Catholic ideals that form the mission of Saint Peter’s University and willingness to integrate these ideals into all aspects of the Athletics Department. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to communicate openly and honestly. Understands the structure of a higher education institution, its constituents, the needs of a campus community, and the proper flow of communication within the University structure. Commitment to integrate athletics with the entire Campus community and to work collaboratively with student life staff, faculty, and University administrators. Ability to travel extensively throughout the year for sporting events, university-sponsored events, and fundraising opportunities.
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree strongly preferred) plus a minimum of 7-8 years of 2 progressive experience leading a successful, multifaceted enterprise in intercollegiate athletics.
