This position reports to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.
Serve as a sport contact for assigned programs. Provide rules interpretations, file waivers, and implement compliance education plans for coaches and student-athletes for assigned sports programs.
Independently review and determine initial and transfer eligibility of incoming student-athletes by evaluating transcripts with regards to NCAA and the conference eligibility regulations. Counsel prospective student-athletes and coaches on NCAA eligibility and admission requirements. Write initial eligibility and transfer waivers as needed. Provide accurate interpretive information regarding initial eligibility. Review and monitor eligibility of any prospects that may trigger the NCAA Prospective Student-Athlete Review process. Prepare freshman and transfer eligibility reports. Provide accurate interpretive information regarding initial eligibility.
Oversight of all aspects of student-athlete rosters, including maintenance of changes in compliance software, tracking changes, communication with internal ICA units related to rosters, and day-to-day tracking for gender equity.
Assist the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance with the implementation of the Compliance education program. Responsible for the creation of compliance educational materials and organization of in-person educational sessions for coaches, department, and outside entities.
Supervisory duties for legal externs. Assist with special projects as assigned.
Work closely with athletic department staff members and outside entities such as the ticket office, business office, housing and food services, regarding compliance areas of responsibility.
This requires highly specialized knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and how they integrate with institutional guidelines. Must be able to identify and resolve problems and issues in a timely manner using independent judgment and decision-making abilities. Assist with NCAA and conference rules interpretations. Assist in providing rules education for coaches, student-athletes, administrators, and representatives of athletics interests.
Work directly with ICA staff, coaches, and student-athletes to promote a positive compliance environment, maintaining compliance with the University, Conference and NCAA regulations, federal and state laws.
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, conference, the State of Washington, and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
MINIMUM REQUIUREMENTS –
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of related working experience. Applicant must have a working knowledge of NCAA regulations, NCAA Legislative Services Database, and the NCAA Eligibility Center. Must have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, and the ability to assume a variety of independent responsibilities and tasks assigned.
Must be able to work under pressure in a busy and diverse environment handling confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and to prioritize and complete several tasks to meet deadlines. Must have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and database applications.
Post-graduate degree desirable. Background and experience in NCAA compliance at a Division I institution. Direct experience with Bylaw 15 and a working knowledge of FAFSA and federal financial aid regulations.
