Position Description: Director of Track & Field/XC
To coach and instruct student athletes within the Track & Field & Cross-Country program in various disciplines of the sport, and lead instruction to maximize knowledge, time effort, safety and skill
Promote the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletic program, to include adherence and enforcement of all departmental policies and procedures, as well as university, conference and NAIA rules and regulations.
Lead & manage all recruitment and selection of student-athletes with critical responsibility of meeting yearly recruitment and roster maintenance goals; recruit and retain exceptional student-athletes to MNU who excel academically.
Manage resources provided by budget; analyze funding needs and create budget requests; exercise authority for all expenditures related to the Track & Field program.
Schedule and supervise practice sessions and intercollegiate contests; design and implement a sound pre-season training program; plan for all team practices to maximize time, effort, safety and skill.
Ability to foster relationships with alumni, friends of the university, and local business; generate additional funding to enhance operating budget.
Monitor and encourage academic progress of the student-athlete culminating in their graduation; counsel student-athletes as needed in academic, eligibility, disciplinary, and personal matters, including consulting with student services personnel and other university administrators to resolve problems.
Advise and counsel student-athletes regarding obligation to comply with all university, conference, and NAIA rules and regulations, including those related to financial aid and eligibility.
Provide for the safety and welfare of team members at all fitness levels working closely with the sports medicine and strength and conditioning staff.
Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations of the NAIA as it relates to the program.
Promote a positive image of the athletic program and the university; establish and enforce standards of personal behavior, conduct and appearance for the student-athletes, coaches, and support personnel.

Qualifications:
Clear commitment and understanding of the mission of a comprehensive university with a liberal arts and professional focus with a substantial student-athlete population. Commitment to an environment that nurtures cooperation, diversity, academic excellence and a vibrant campus life.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, in a manner consistent with professional standards, including making oral presentations to groups and contributing to the development of high-quality written materials which reflect positively on the university.
Ability to lead a group of coaches with in the track and field program to move the program student athletes progressively forward athletically, academically and spiritually.
Ability to consistently demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external constituencies. Particularly, the ability to relate to students and families from a broad range of backgrounds, both in group situations and individually, and effectively advise students.
The ability to remain calm in crisis situations, to act decisively, and to apply sound judgment in determining appropriate action regarding interventions, assistance and referral of students to other university staff members.
Experience establishing collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and outside constituencies, and to work effectively as a member of a staff where cooperation and teamwork are essential.
Ability to prioritize and multi task, maintaining flexibility, high energy, creativity, and attention to detail.
Ability to apply mathematical skills necessary for such tasks as the preparation of statistical reports and developing and monitoring budgets and use technologies to accomplish team and departmental goals.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
A minimum of three to five years of significant, progressive, and responsible experience in coaching is required with collegiate level experience preferred.
Physical Demands:
The ability to lift, move and relocate equipment (often times heavy) for drill, practices and training sessions.
The ability to run/jog to keep up with athletes in drill, practices and training sessions.
The ability of stand for long periods of time during drills, practices, training sessions, &games.
The ability to travel long distances for games and recruiting.
