Under the direction of the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs the Director of Development will oversee the day-to-day operations of the SUU Athletics annual fund. The successful candidate will encourage and promote philanthropic engagement to support the student and athlete experience. This position will also manage a small portfolio of major gift candidates. There will be a high emphasis on obtaining new donors and planning for the long-term success of Southern Utah Athletics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify, cultivate and solicit new annual fund members to the Thunderbird Athletic Foundation (TAF).
In conjunction with other staff members, assist in growth of annual "virtual auction."
Research and implement strategies, programs, and best practices to increase philanthropic revenues to support and enhance the student-athlete experience.
Partner with SUU Advancement and other athletic staff members to execute a marketing plan for the annual giving program, including solicitations, renewals, and collateral materials to include direct mail, website, social media, and email.
Assist in managing the Thunderbird Athletic Foundation stewardship program, including annual membership benefits fulfillment, weekly e-newsletter, acknowledgement letters, gift receipts, and anything else that may enhance the donor experience.
Participate in various departmental activities, including aiding in the staffing of development functions at athletics events.
Encourage and invite current employees at Southern Utah University to get involved with the annual fund.

Education and Experience Requirements:
A bachelor's degree
Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including excellent writing and editing skills.
Knowledge and experience using a CRM software
Persistence and resourcefulness in developing and executing solicitation strategies and closing gifts/sales.
One-year experience in active solicitations to prospective donors through calls or in-person visits. Experience with organizing, running events with over 50 attendees.
Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
Highly developed organizational skills, including the ability to work under pressure to handle multiple prospects and requests, and meet competing deadlines.
Ability to foster positive interpersonal relationships and professional image with external and internal constituencies by adhering to customer service standards.
Basic knowledge of IRS and CASE standards.
Ability to travel and be responsible as a representative of Southern Utah Athletics at off-campus functions.
