Director of Equipment Services
Long Island University (LIU), an NCAA DI institution, is seeking an Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications. The Director of Equipment Services manages the Athletic Equipment Services and Operations areas and duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. This position works closely with the Athletic Business Offices, Event Operations, and sport programs to ensure that timely and accurate servicing, ordering, tracking, issuance, and inventory of equipment and apparel takes place across all LIU Athletics varsity sport programs. Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations, this position provides oversight of LIU Athletics Equipment Services staff, maintains an active role in servicing sport programs and collaborating with Athletic Event Operations staff. This position is based on the Long Island University Post campus, but requires coordination and servicing of sport programs at both the Post and Brooklyn campuses.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide equipment and apparel inventory, storage, ordering tracking, issuance, and maintenance services to support University intercollegiate sports and student-athletes; Effective supervision, training, evaluation and accountability for staff in Athletic Equipment Services including full-time employees, student workers, and volunteers;
Oversee apparel and equipment operations and appropriate safety pertaining to management of apparel and equipment for all sport programs;
Actively maintains equipment and storage locations;
Provides regular reports regarding equipment to designated coaches and staff;
Effectively communicates with all designated coaches and administrators to certify all athletic equipment and apparel complies with applicable safety regulations and brand guidelines;
Develops policies and procedures in coordination with LIU Athletics leadership and regular communicates policies to students and staff;
Collaborates with designate sport administrators and staff to evaluate equipment needs analysis, and provides consultation to coaching staff and athletes on the use of equipment;
Independently researches and determines if new safety protocols and equipment modifications should be implemented;
Manages budget preparation and monitoring in addition to processing, and tracking, procurement requests as required;
Oversees logistics regarding equipment transportation for athletic events, e.g. weight limitations;
Coordinates physical setup of various activities within athletics to ensure events run smoothly. Ensures all equipment, apparel, and operations comply with applicable University trademarks, NCAA, conference, and institutional, rules and regulations;
Responsible for role modeling positive behaviors and leadership for student-athletes and employees.
Professional Experience/Qualifications
A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in athletics or equivalent setting. Must be capable of working collegially with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students on a daily basis. A proven track record of managing multiple programs and execution from concept through implementation and measurement. Self-motivated and able to multitask/manage multiple priorities. Ability to work independently. Experience with fitting equipment for football and NCAA DI Olympic sport programs. Familiarity with commercial size laundry facilities, including ozone machine. Knowledge of disinfectant materials and procedures and related OSHA regulations. Experience with managing budgets. Ability to work non-traditional hours, including game nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Education:
A bachelor’s degree required or a combination of education and industry experience from which comparable skills are attained is required.
Work Schedule:
Requires the ability to work occasional nights, weekends, and some holidays.
