General Information:
James Madison University is accepting applications for a Director of Athletics Events & Game Operations within the Facilities and Events Department. The mission of the Facilities and Events Department is to provide excellent customer service through the management of athletic facilities, event administration and operational support. The goal of the Facilities and Events Department is to provide an environment that enriches the experience for student-athletes, participants and guests. Under the guidance of the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities and Events, the successful candidate will lead the Event Management unit while working cooperatively with internal departments, campus stakeholders and services providers to schedule, organize, plan, and execute events throughout the athletics venues. This includes aspects related to but not limited to: event management, crowd management, resource allocation, risk management, safety policy development and enforcement, and outside rentals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervision:
• Provides leadership/oversight for full-time, wage and student staff through recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation.
• Assists in resource management working closely with Asst. AD, Director of Facilities & Operations, and Director of AUBC to best accomplish departmental mission.
• Primary liaison with Event Staffing provider (RMC Events) and Emergency Services provider (ETS).
Facilities and Events Administration:
• Takes part in the strategic planning of annual goals and objectives for the Facilities and Events Department.
• Serves as back-up to the Assistant Athletic Director by performing administrative duties such as contract approvals, key/access management, budgetary approvals, equipment transfer/disposals, etc.
• Budget management for assigned event budgets.
Scheduling and special projects:
• Directs the scheduling of all athletic facilities.
• Maintains master calendar for all activities, events, and programs in venues.
• Serves as Summer Camp Coordinator for Varsity Sport Programs.
• Assist Assistant AD with development and maintenance of Emergency Action
Plans, including Severe Weather plan management and communication for internal and external events.
Event Management & Game Operations:
• Serves as the primary Event/Game Manager for assigned events occurring in Athletic facilities; makes assignments for and has oversight for Event Managers at other home events.
• Works with closely with Asst. AD on duties while serving in lead role as a Football Game Day Manager, leading all aspects of planning and production meetings.
• Oversight and management of event and business operations including pre-event estimates, scheduling, contractual agreements, event operations and post-event settlement.
• Manages all aspects of events such as planning and logistics to event implementation of staffing plans and collaboration with various units within Athletics, JMU and service providers.
• Enforces health, fire, safety and other facility regulations.
• Develops and manages crowd control policy and procedures and ensures safety of game personnel, participants, and patrons.
• Leads and/or assists with bid submission and planning and hosting of NCAA and conference post-season events. Serves as Tournament Manager for assigned post-season events.
