Washington Athletics has an outstanding opportunity for a Coordinator of Football Marketing.
This position reports to the Senior Director of Creative Services and will help lead the branding efforts of the Washington Football Program in the digital space. The major focus of the position will be the overall positioning of the team through social media platforms. Additionally, it will have a specific emphasis on the recruitment of potential student-athletes.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Create a comprehensive content calendar through collaboration with the creative arm within the program. Manage and oversee the execution and distribution plan across various platforms, mediums, and audiences. Provide expertise and creative insight on the most effective social media marketing ideas and program concepts. Develop strategies for social media as it relates specifically to recruiting, brand awareness, fans, and the general public. Serve as the team’s primary contact for all social media channels and help operate all accounts including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and other new social platforms. Provide expertise and creative insight on the most effective social media marketing ideas and program concepts. Monitor trends in emerging media and appropriately apply that knowledge. Maintain a high level of professionalism and composure in creating/managing social media content and interacting with followers of the team’s social media properties. Work closely with Director of Player Personnel and Senior Director of Creative Services to enhance the recruiting and branding efforts of the football program through social media. Participate in regular brainstorm sessions to help determine the direction, ideas, and schedule of upcoming materials and events. This includes brainstorm sessions with the football creative and recruiting staffs in addition to sessions with the Washington Athletics external group in collaborative efforts. Provide weekly analytic reports of all platforms that help drive decisions and maximize exposure of the content calendar and major branding initiatives. 50%
Shoot photos at practices, games, community events, recruit visits and other visibility opportunities that capture the personality of the football program. Create and strategize all content weekly for the TikTok account. Create short and quick content for social channels and use basic video/graphic templates to round out the creative team as a content creator. Provide assistance on unofficial and official visits with prospect photoshoots and other duties as assigned. 20%
This position requires someone with great communication and collaboration skills as they will be working closely with various groups of people, both internally in the football program as well as externally in the athletic department. Work primarily with the Director of Player Personnel and Senior Director of Creative Services to maintain a cohesive look and feel among all assets. Strategize with the creative staff on the best ways to target and appeal to potential student-athletes. Educate coaches on incorporating relevant social media techniques into the culture and their own marketing, promotional, and recruiting efforts. Assist head coach in social media use. Track all prospective student-athlete’s social presence and help record information for football staff. Serve as the social media liaison between Washington and the NFL. 15%
Provide student-athletes with all photos and video from practice, workouts and games via Opendorse or other innovative NIL platforms. In addition, work in collaboration with players on individual photos, video and graphic needs to assist in NIL needs. Verify all players and staff members on Instagram. Serve as the contact for student-athletes if they have any issues with their social media accounts. Work as the liaison between student-athletes, Director of Player Development and Washington NIL staff to best support any requests or needs. Work closely with NIL staff to create marketing recruiting materials such as packets, digital graphics and PowerPoint presentations to relay all NIL activations. 10%
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Big10 Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field. A minimum of three years of experience in sports marketing, promotions, web development, video/graphic design, social media tools and techniques, or related education/experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Computer experience with database and basic Microsoft Office and intermediate experience in Adobe Suite programs.
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and/or work in a Division 1A athletic department. Must be organized, team-oriented, self-motivated, a hard worker with excellent communication skills and have a positive attitude. Must have experience in dealing with confidential and sensitive information. Candidate must be self-sufficient and a problem solver.
• Must be willing and able to work some evenings and weekends year-round. Flexibility in scheduling vacation and other time off is a necessity as there are certain times of the year (August through January, April and June) that are labor-intensive. Must be willing and able to travel with the team to all away, championship and bowl games.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in football operations/recruiting and an understanding of the student-athlete recruiting process highly desirable. Broad experience in marketing platforms including traditional, social and emerging media, guerilla and ‘word of mouth’.
