General Information:
James Madison University, a Division I member of the NCAA and Sun Belt Conference, the Duke Club is seeking a Director of Major Gifts to work within a highly competitive program. This is a full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Fundraising for JMU Athletics (Duke Club)
• Actively manage a portfolio of prospective and current major gift donors to JMU Athletics
• Qualifying new Athletics Major Gift donors
• Oversight and execution of two Athletic Development Officers (Senior Athletic Development Officer and Athletic Development Officer)
• Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist staff with their qualifying, cultivating, solicitation and stewarding (e.g. provide portfolio development support, help with donor communications)
• Close major and deferred gift commitments of $25K+ within time frames deemed (in consultation with the Associate AD – Development and other parties) to be optimal to the circumstances of each prospect and to the fundraising goals of the university/athletics
• In collaboration with the Associate AD - Development, develops and implements strategies for major gift fundraising to generate private contributions supporting the top priorities of JMU Athletics, including student-athlete support, unrestricted needs and capital projects
• Work closely with Assistant Director of Events & Donor Stewardship to ensure development and execution of effective stewardship strategies for all major gifts
• Work collaboratively with other athletic and university fundraisers
• Collaborate with Director of Internal Operations on Duke Club’s strategic communication/marketing plan
• Oversee periodic meetings involving senior leadership and development staff for the purpose of developing and monitoring cultivation/solicitation/stewardship plans relating to the members of the Major Gift Prospect Pool
• Participate in season ticket campaigns for all applicable sports
• Fundraising liaison for multiple sports
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Fundraising/Sales experience or at least 3 years of work experience in a related field
Preferred:
• Master’s degree
• Fundraising/Sales experience or at least 5 years of work experience in a related field
• Prior experience working in Athletics
