Job Summary:

The Director of Olympic Athletic Performance provides expertise, guidance, and training in the area of athletic development for student-athletes participating in a number of the Olympic Sports at Houston Christian University.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Serves as a representative HCU, a Christian university, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the HCU community and with the public.
• Meets with coaching staff to design and implement program for developing athletic performance.
• Conduct and monitor strength and conditioning programs for Olympic Sports with great emphasis on the safety of athletes.
• Coordinates student-athlete rehabilitation with sports medicine; assists with rehabilitation of injured athletes and approves return to play.
• Educates student-athletes about nutrition and supplements.

• Meets with coaching staff to design and implement program for developing athletic performance.
• Conduct and monitor strength and conditioning programs for Olympic Sports with great emphasis on the safety of athletes.
• Coordinates student-athlete rehabilitation with sports medicine; assists with rehabilitation of injured athletes and approves return to play.
• Educates student-athletes about nutrition and supplements.
• Coordinates, maintains, and staffs Sharp Gym strength facilities; assists in identifying and purchasing needed strength and conditioning equipment.
• Maintains up-to-date records on the athletic performance of individual workouts of Olympic Sport student-athletes.
• May be required to assist other sports in the area of athletic performance.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic Performance and Director of Athletics.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Attends monthly compliance meetings.
• Must comply with all conference and NCAA rules and regulations.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience in strength and conditioning training for elite-level athletes
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance issues concerning the administration of intercollegiate athletics

Fiscal Responsibility:

None

Physical Demands:

• Heavy lifting required
• Must be able to climb stairs
• Must be able to operate all equipment within the athletic weight room

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to work nights and weekends
• Must be able to work 40 plus hours per week as schedule demands.
