JOB SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to plan and implement programs in communications, publications and promotions which will advance the visibility of the University’s 20 NCAA DIII intercollegiate athletic programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Gather and disseminate information about the university’s athletic programs
• Serve as primary administrator of the athletics website and social media forums (manage all communication with media outlets - print, web, radio, social)
• Write general news releases, game recaps, and award announcements in a timely and accurate manner

• Serve as official statistician for all home events; responsible for all aspects of SID function for home events (game staff - students and other - for stats, video, PA, webcasting

• Complete statistical reports for all sports and distribute to appropriate parties (opponents, conference offices)

• Prepare and submit all award nominations for MIAC, WIAC, CoSIDA, and NCAA

• Maintain up to date records on all athletic teams

• Set up and maintain archive of departmental information and records

• Manage a fiscally sound operating budget

• Maintain appropriate, professional office hours during the year

• Work cooperatively with departmental personnel, attend staff and MIAC meetings and activities, and represent the University positively when interacting with the community, alumni,  media, and general public

• All other duties as requested

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to:  Senior Associate Athletic Director

This position supervises: student workers (10 -15 dependent upon season)

BUDGET MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for the following budget:  financial analyst for Sports Information operating budget = $13K

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KEY COMPETENCIES

• General knowledge of athletics and completing statistics for a variety of sports
• General knowledge of financial management/good practices
• Organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and details effectively

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Previous experience in sports information, broadcast/print journalism, or media relations

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Knowledge of statistical software programs (StatCrew or others), web editing and design skills

WORKING CONDITIONS / EQUIPMENT

• Requires the ability to work evenings and weekends for sport or departmental activities
• Must be able to work on a computer for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift at least 25 lbs on an occasional basis

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• This is a full time, .92 FTE, exempt position, 11 months a year

Compensation and Benefits:

Pay Amount: $49,100 per year
