The Department of Athletics is seeking a Director of Strategic Operations. This is a full-time (1.0FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

This position will be a mentor and advocate for student athletes, primarily within the
OSU
Football Program. The Director of Strategic Operations will be the liaison to many on and off-campus resources and agencies. The individual in this position must be responsive, while maintaining competing priorities and function in an environment with a high-level of urgency, while meeting the needs of the Athletic Department and its students. The Director of Strategic Operations will report directly to the Director of Football Operations/Chief of Staff.

50% Student – Athlete Advocacy & Mentorship
Utilizes best practices and models to resolve conflicts and complaints on behalf of student-athletes.
Provide recommendations, advice, and consultation to the Director of FB Operations on the management of complaints, conflicts, and/or other issues and concerns that arise within the student-athlete environments.
Works with on-campus and off-campus constituents to provide resources and tools to student-athletes.
Fosters a supportive environment for students who may need assistance managing various concerns and issues.
Manages non-routine follow-up for situations based on individual circumstances.
Serves as liaison to internal and external agencies, applies use of professional judgement to situations and discerns when it is appropriate to refer students to relevant
OSU
and outside resources.
Serves as a pathway for students, connecting them with community resources and assists them with accessing needed services.
Assists students involved in the Bridge Program.
May assist in transporting students to/from off-campus resources using a University owned vehicle, which then requires them to possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record while serving in the position.
Ensures confidentiality of student-athlete information and maintains compliance with
NCAA
and
PAC
-12 rules.
Provides mentoring, leadership, and direction for student athletes.
Assists in policy creation for Football Operations and Student Academic Services
25% Community Building / Outreach / Trainings
Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with campus and community resources and establishments.
Builds relationships with
OSU
partners to ensure ongoing collaboration.
Serves as liaison with the Football and all Sport Administrators in regards to communication with the Department of Public Safety and local/state law enforcement agencies.
Works collaboratively with Public Safety to provide/schedule education and training opportunities for all student athletes, coaches and administration on police and legal related matters, relationship and situational awareness with law enforcement agencies, and safety resources.
15% Public Safety Liaison
Functions as the primary point of contact with Public Safety for all gameday and security needs.
Manages program that tracks game, practice, and other related event participants to ensure safety for students.
Monitors players’ lounge, locker-rooms, areas frequented by student athletes, and other secure areas.
Assists with travel and home event security logistics, in coordination with Public Safety, for all teams in a year-round position.
Function as the primary point of contact on all emergency action plans related to Athletics and Athletics specific facilities
10% Events/Facilities and Contract Administration
Negotiates contracts with outside agencies for security and transportation needs for teams/department.
Functions as the liaison between Athletics events and facilities staff and Public Safety for game management.
Assists in identifying and planning for risk and emergency action plans for all facilities and events.
Coordinates with the office of Risk, Emergency management and Department of Public Safety.
Bachelors degree in applicable field
2 years’ experience working with, mentoring, or supporting D1 athletics
Experience with high-level conflict resolution.
Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
Knowledge of county, state, and federal laws applicable to this role, (i.e., Oregon Administrative Rules,
FERPA
, Oregon and Benton County local laws and ordinances, Cleary Art, Title IX).
Experience with contract management or negotiations for outside services
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
