Essential Functions

 

Job Summary

Responsible for all aspects of nutrition programming for over 350 student-athletes/17 sports programs. Provides professional knowledge, technical expertise and supervisory skills to oversee all aspects of nutrition education, fueling station/training table for student-athletes.  

Provides the clinical, food service and education/outreach services given to optimize the health and performance of the student-athletes.

Core Responsibilities

1. Designs, implements, and oversees a holistic sports nutrition program tailored to meet the broad needs of student-athletes across various sports.
2. Provides individual and group/team nutrition counseling sessions, educational workshops, and presentations to student-athletes, coaches, and staff members.
3. Manages all aspects of the fueling station, including procurement, inventory, staffing, and facility maintenance, ensuring a well-stocked and hygienic environment.
4. Assesses and analyzes dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance to optimize nutrition for exercise training, competition, recovery, hydration, immunity, and weight management.
5. Develops personalized meal and snack plans for student-athletes, aligning with their athletic goals and overall health objectives.
6. Maintains accurate records of nutrition services provided, evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition strategies, and adjust plans as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
7. Recruits and fosters a collaborative and supportive team environment, providing mentorship and guidance to nutrition staff, interns, and volunteers.
8. Manages the budget allocated for sports nutrition, ensuring optimal utilization of resources to deliver high-quality services.
9. Works closely with coaching staff, sports medicine professionals, and other relevant stakeholders to integrate nutrition seamlessly into the overall athlete performance program.
10. Evaluates nutritional supplements, including herbal supplements, for legality, safety, quality, and efficacy; monitors the use of appropriate supplementation per NCAA regulations.
11. Assists in recruiting efforts by providing prospective student-athletes and their families with information about the college's sports nutrition services.
12. Stays updated on all NCAA, conference, and university legislation/rules and standards regarding sports nutrition and supplementation.
13. Stays abreast of the latest research, trends, and advancements in sports nutrition, integrating evidence-based practices into the nutrition program.
14. Develops and oversees nutrition policies and procedures.
15. Maintains professional competency and skills required for professional practice. (CEUs) Maintain compliance with NCAA, Conference, and institutional rules that relate to position.
16. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study from an accredited institution.
• Registered Dietitian Texas Licensure upon hire.
• One year of experience as a Sports Nutritionist/Dietitian.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
• Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). 
• Two years of experience as a Sports Nutritionist/Dietitian in college athletics. Experience working with Disordered Eating clients.
• Strong understanding of NCAA regulations related to sports nutrition and supplements.

Working Conditions

• Evening, weekend, holiday and summer hours are occasionally required.

Physical Demands:

• Occasionally moves supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds.
