Bachelor’s Degree Required. Two or more years of experience working with academic support, college access, career services and mentoring programs (e.g., student-athlete development programming, mentoring, supplemental instruction, or tutoring programs and services); Employment background which demonstrates supervisory, teaching/tutoring, and experience working with undergraduate students in a higher education environment. Ability to plan, develop and implement programs, services and events designed to enhance student academic success; ability to meet deadlines and adjust to priorities and assignments on a daily basis.
Master’s Degree; Familiarity with NCAA eligibility and academic progress regulations, as well as knowledge of higher education; Experience in an athletic academic center. Working knowledge of computer database systems, Word, Excel, and other Microsoft programs for professional report writing, record-keeping, communication, and projects; leadership and organizational skills; writing and oral communication skills; ability to work independently and as a team member; strong commitment to academic and personal integrity; and experience working with culturally diverse populations.
Responsible for developing, supervising and assessing programming in support of the five main components of the Student-Athlete Development (formerly NCAA Life Skills) program within the Athletic Academic Center (AAC) and serving as liaison to key units in academic and student affairs enhancing programmatic success. The Director of Student-Athlete Development acts as Interim Director of the Athletic Academic Center when the Director is absent and works as directed with the Athletic Certification officers, the coaches of NCAA athletic teams, the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Affairs, and the Assistant Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance.
Duties: Plan, develop and implement a Student-Athlete Development program at Texas State University Implement the five components of the Student-Athlete Development program consisting of 1. Academic Excellence 2. Athletic Excellence 3. Career Development 4. Community Engagement 5. Personal Development Schedule and host programs and speakers on life skills development Develop marketing and promotional materials, including web, in support of Texas State’s Student-Athlete Development program Serve as liaison to other units on campus (University College, Student Affairs) as needed in support of Student-Athlete Development and AAC goals and objectives Develop and implement a variety of community service events for student athletes Work with the campus community to engage and involve student athletes in a positive way Monitor and support the academic progress of assigned athletic teams Assess and evaluate the needs of coaches, teams, and individual student athletes on a continuous basis Advise student athletes on maintaining a balance between academic and athletic expectations with the goal of successful performance in each Advise student athletes on registration issues, especially related to unique nature of the student athlete experience (practice and competition times, e.g.) Work with at-risk student athletes to enhance their college experience Assist the Director of the AAC with the coordination, maintenance, and evaluation of the delivery of the academic support programs and retention of student athletes Assist in grant writing in support of AAC goals and strategic initiatives Represent the AAC on an occasional basis at public events Act as Interim Director for the Athletic Academic Center, should the Director be out of the office. Serve on College and University committees, councils and/or task forces as deemed necessary by the dean and director Other duties as assigned KSA: Knowledge of: NCAA regulations concerning student athletes and best practices for student success in intercollegiate athletics. N4A best practices concerning student-athlete development programming, planning, execution and analysisSkills in: Oral and written communications, including letters, proposals, reports, forms, policies and procedures; Directing and motivating a diverse student population, including excellent interpersonal skills needed to establish rapport with student athletes, coaches and others; Ability to collect and analyze data; Using computer software appropriate to the ask.Ability to: Understand, interpret and communicate Texas State University, Sun Belt Conference and NCAA policies, official documents and reports; Navigate and utilize SAP system for personnel and fiscal management; Create and make effective presentations; Evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations for change based upon assessment results; Develop short- and long-term plans.
