This position will play a vital role in supporting the diagnostics and research needs of the Sports Medicine, Performance Nutrition, and Strength & Conditioning Departments within LSU Athletics. The position will provide technological and scientific support for the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures as well as the planning, scheduling, and execution of specialized research protocols as described in grants, proposals, and other projects in coordination with LSU Athletics.
The position is expected to effectively and efficiently assess body composition in LSU Athletes using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry, and coordinate and communicate scheduling availability to appropriate team members to ensure project and programmatic goals are achieved in a timely manner. In some cases, other methods of body composition may also be used including body circumferences, BodPod, Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA), etc.
Other research duties as assigned as a study team member for the preparation, execution, and analysis required for successful completion of study objectives as determine by Registered Dietitians and Principal Investigator(s).
Specifically, the position will be required to utilize specialized training and certification that will allow them to perform the duties of a certified bone density technologist (CBDT) which include:
70% Performing human bone densitometry scans to the exact specifications outlined in standard operating procedures manuals; Ensuring student-athlete/patient and environmental safety by delivering patient education, following all instructions and warnings pertaining to body positioning and minimizing radiology exposure; Completing calibrations and ensuring quality assurance and control are met in accordance of academic and industry standards; Interpreting data and producing reports in collaboration with consented Registered Dietitians, Team Physicians, and Research Associates; Maintain radiographic equipment, and report any equipment failures.
25% Work collaboratively with Performance Dietitians (RDs) with scheduling; Managing confidential Protected Health Information (PHI) according to HIPAA & FERPA standards;Performing a variety of scientific and administrative tasks and be responsible for creating, reviewing, and editing documentation required for research activities, to include all materials and record-keeping required for regulatory and safety compliance.
5% Other duties as assigned.
