Reporting to the Head Equipment Manager of Athletics, the Equipment Assistant is responsible for assisting in the daily management of the football equipment room but is focused primarily on helping with the preparation of games and practices.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Responsible for daily laundering and storage of all practice and game uniforms.
Supervise and direct student workers assisting the Equipment Staff.
Assist in maintaining an accurate, up-to-date inventory of all equipment and apparel for all sports working out of Kaplan Arena and the Jimmye Laycock Football Center.
Pack and unpack for away games, arranging for transportation of equipment.
Clean and repair equipment as needed and assist in the upkeep of fields and facilities.

Certification must be obtained within one year of the hire date.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
Subject to some evening, weekend, and holiday work.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to constantly lift, push, pull, and carry items on a routine basis
Ability to walk up and down stairs inclines, and hills on a daily basis
Ability to work well with others
Subject to occasional travel.
This position is an hourly position. All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed on average 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year.
This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver’s license and two years of driving experience.
Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills.
Computer skills, i.e., basic to intermediate skill level in Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others in a team environment including working with the public and interdepartmental personnel.
Knowledge of
NCCA
rules and regulations relative to equipment purchasing, allocation, and retention.
Basic sewing skills for garment alteration and repair.
Two years of football student manager experience.
Ability to drive a 26 ft. box truck.

Remote work eligibility is not guaranteed and is subject to approval. Employee eligibility depends on the likelihood of the employee succeeding in a remote work arrangement and the supervisor’s ability to manage remote workers.
