Position Description:

Merrimack College is seeking an organized, motivated professional to serve as the Women’s Ice Hockey Equipment Manager. This position manages all equipment, apparel and operational needs for the NCAA Division I Women’s Ice Hockey program.

Working closely with coaches, student-athletes and Athletics staff, the Equipment Manager plays an important role in ensuring the team is prepared for practices, games and travel while helping provide a first-class student-athlete experience.

Primary Responsibilities

Equipment Operations

• Manage all equipment and apparel needs for the Women’s Ice Hockey program.

• Prepare, maintain, repair and organize equipment for practices, games and travel.

• Sharpen and maintain skates and perform routine repairs and modifications to hockey equipment.

• Ensure equipment is properly fitted, maintained and compliant with NCAA, Hockey East and College requirements.

• Maintain organized, clean and competition-ready locker rooms, equipment rooms and storage areas.

Equipment Operations

• Manage all equipment and apparel needs for the Women’s Ice Hockey program.

• Prepare, maintain, repair and organize equipment for practices, games and travel.

• Sharpen and maintain skates and perform routine repairs and modifications to hockey equipment.

• Ensure equipment is properly fitted, maintained and compliant with NCAA, Hockey East and College requirements.

• Maintain organized, clean and competition-ready locker rooms, equipment rooms and storage areas.

• Manage team laundry and apparel needs.

Inventory & Purchasing

• Maintain accurate inventories of uniforms, apparel, skates, sticks and protective equipment.

• Coordinate ordering, receiving, distribution and collection of team equipment and apparel.

• Assist with annual equipment planning, purchasing and budget management.

• Coordinate with vendors on orders, repairs, warranties and replacements.

Practices, Games & Travel

• Provide equipment support for practices, home and away competitions and postseason play.

• Prepare locker rooms, benches, uniforms and equipment for team activities.

• Quickly address equipment needs and repairs during practices and games.

• Coordinate packing, transportation, setup and breakdown of equipment for team travel.

• Travel with the team to away competitions and postseason events as required.

Student-Athlete & Department Support

• Provide professional, responsive equipment service to student-athletes and coaches.

• Coordinate equipment fitting, issuance, repairs, replacement and end-of-season collection.

• Work closely with coaching, athletic training, sports performance, facilities and operations staff.

• Assist with Athletics events and departmental operations as needed.

• Follow College, NCAA and Hockey East policies and regulations.

Departmental Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Merrimack Athletics equipment, facilities and event-management personnel to support efficient departmental operations.

• Assist with broader Athletics equipment or facility operations when scheduling permits and as assigned.

• Support departmental initiatives, special events, championship events and other institutional activities.

• Maintain equipment rooms, storage areas and workspaces consistent with College expectations for cleanliness, safety and organization.

• Follow Merrimack College policies and procedures and applicable NCAA and Hockey East Conference rules and regulations.

• Promote an environment that reflects Merrimack College Athletics’ commitment to competitive excellence, integrity, inclusion, teamwork and student-athlete development.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

• Previous hockey equipment management experience, preferably at the collegiate, professional, junior or high-level amateur level.

• Strong knowledge of hockey equipment fitting, maintenance and repair.

• Proficiency in skate sharpening and maintenance.

• Excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays and travel throughout the season.

• Ability to lift, carry and transport equipment and supplies.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet College driving requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Equipment management experience in NCAA Division I or high-performance hockey.

• Experience with a women’s collegiate hockey program.

• Experience with inventory-management systems and major hockey equipment and apparel vendors.

• Familiarity with NCAA and Hockey East operations and regulations.

Physical & Scheduling Requirements

This position requires regular lifting, carrying and moving of hockey equipment and supplies. Significant evening and weekend work and team travel are required throughout the competitive season.
