). Ashland University offers a comprehensive 24-sport athletic program. The university is located off of Interstate 71 in Ashland, Ohio, midway between Cleveland and Columbus.
The head coach is responsible for directing the entire operation of the Esports program. This is a full-time, 12-month position. The position reports to the director of athletics.
The head coach is responsible for contest scheduling, practice and contest planning, player skill development and coordination of all events concerning the Esports program.
The head coach is responsible for the general oversight of the Esports facility. This position will be responsible for maintaining and monitoring all Esports equipment and facilities.
Applicants should have a thorough understanding of Esports and trends in the gaming industry. The head coach should have familiarity with several types of games and be able to instruct student-athletes in playing and game preparation.
It is imperative that the head coach research and stay current on cutting edge equipment and playing techniques for a wide variety of Esports game. Candidates need to have experience in maintaining both software and hardware equipment associated with Esports.
The head coach will work one-on-one with student-athletes and also be required to instruct student-athletes in small group settings.
The head coach will serve as the face of the program. This includes helping to promote and build the program.
The head coach will work with groups on and off campus to expand the visibility of Ashland University Esports. This would include speaking at promotional events, directing summer camps, working with the admissions office on campus visits of potential student-athletes and teaming with the sports marketing office and university marketing office on campaigns to promote Esports.
This position requires the ability to recruit potential student-athletes. The head coach is responsible for meeting all Ashland University roster requirements.
The head coach will also oversee any part-time or volunteer coaches, plus a graduate assistant coach and provide annual evaluations on the Esports staff.
Applicants should be well versed and able to instruct student-athletes on physical health, team concepts and team building exercises, team development techniques and safety.
A thorough understanding of
NCAA
and
GMAC
rules and regulations is required. The head coach must adhere to these rules and ensure that the program is in compliance with all rules, regulations and guidelines. The ability to articulate these to student-athletes is also required.
An understanding of Ashland University’s mission and goals is required. Applicants must have the ability to explain these to student-athletes.
Candidates will be responsible for monitoring the Esports budget. All plans for travel and equipment purchase fall under the responsibility of the head coach.
The head coach is responsible for monitoring academic progress of all student-athletes on the team and working with various constituencies across campus to ensure that student-athletes receive the proper academic counseling and assistance.
This position could require other assignments as assigned by the athletic director. These could include fundraising, game management and working with other athletic department personnel at selected events.
Bachelor’s Degree is required and/or coaching/playing experience at an elite level of competition is desired. Previous Esports coaching in higher education or similar program development is preferred.
Strong technology skills are required. This includes familiarity with software and hardware equipment associated with Esports and the ability to stay up to date on cutting edge trends in Esports.
The ability to identify and recruit student-athletes is required.
This position requires well-developed communication skills, as well as strong time management and organizational skills.
The ability to manage a budget is desired.
The ability to work weekends and evenings is required. This position requires travel (some overnight), both in recruiting and attending competitions. Non-traditional work hours will also be required.
