Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Executive Director for Athletics Development, under the supervision of the Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement, will be an integral part of the Development and Alumni Engagement team for Eastern Kentucky University. This position will travel extensively, both within Kentucky and beyond, to advance a culture of philanthropy at EKU. The Executive Director for Athletics will serve an important role by bringing University Athletics to alumni and friends throughout the US. The incumbent will help discover, cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned gift prospects. The incumbent will also focus on increasing gifts and identifying and soliciting planned gifts. Metrics will be determined based on previous experience; however, emphasis will be placed on securing visits and soliciting gifts. The incumbent will work under the close oversight and direction of the Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement to grow the incumbent's knowledge and experience. This position will be expected to attend many athletic events and be involved with other fundraising efforts for athletic teams. The incumbent will work closely with Colonels Club and Worn Cleat Society. Emphasis will be placed on solicitating major and planned gifts with expectation to serve as a development representative for athletics. This position will require significant travel (30% or more) and some evenings and weekends.

As a member of the Development Leadership Team, this individual is expected to assist in all areas of development including collaborating with colleagues assigned to colleges to maximize the gift potential from alumni of their programs who also support EKU Athletics. This individual will play a crucial role in bringing philanthropy to corporate partners who support athletics. The incumbent will also help develop a comprehensive stewardship plan to acknowledge athletic supporters and keep them updated about EKU in general. Creativity, strong work ethic, and self-motivation are essential.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree is required, Master's preferred.

Experience: Five years of work experience in sales and/or non-profit fund development is required. Athletics experience an knowledge is required.

• Experience with major gifts is preferred.

Licensure & Certifications: A valid driver's license is required.

Job Duties:

• 60% - Set goals and create plans and programs for the entire Athletic Department, including all capital improvements, and long-range planning. Take the lead in comprehensive and capital campaigns for athletics. Develop high-level donor engagement strategies, and spearhead major gift efforts within athletics. Work closely with college development officers to ensure alumni who are athletes have the opportunity to support the academic and athletic side of the University. - (Essential)
• 20% - Provides communications, motivation, and leadership to the department. Ensure compliance with conference and institutional rules and regulations. Serve as liaison between department and athletics to ensure collaboration and communication. - (Essential)
• 10% - Divide work in a structured framework. Work with central administration on campus, booster groups, media, alumni, parents, students, and directors on campus. Travel to high-profile athletic events to network with constituents and expand the presence of EKU athletics nationally. - (Essential)
• 10% - Create and expand strategic corporate partnerships to serve athletics, develop and execute comprehensive plan to steward athletic donors, and engage young alumni athletes online and in person to enhance their affinity. Supports the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned. - (Essential)
