Instructor is responsible for teaching related

classes (includes 50% assignment to teach intercollegiate basketball and other classes as assigned). Under the general direction of the Director of Athletic Operations and Events, the Head Women’s Basketball Coach/
HES
Instructor is responsible to coordinate, recruit, plan, organize and coach a community college intercollegiate women’s basketball program (includes 50% assignment release time to coach, recruit, and plan an intercollegiate women’s basketball team, includes weekends and evenings as required during fall and spring semesters). Potential summer duties may include camp/clinic instruction/supervision, recruiting, program development, and other related activities.

CRITERIA
:
Minimum of 13 players
Master’s in physical education, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education
OR
Bachelor’s in any of the above
AND
Master’s in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy
OR
A current California Community College Credential that permits full-time service as an instructor in physical education, OR Education and experience that is at least the equivalent of items above
Basketball coaching experience
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic and socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff
OTHER
REQUIREMENTS
:
Possess or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid class B (with passenger endorsement) commercial driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record
CPR
and First Aid certification (if not held, to be obtained within three months of hire)
Basketball coaching experience at the collegiate level
Demonstrated ability to conduct/promote activities supporting academic excellence and student persistence/retention for student-athletes
Teaching experience at the community college level
The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in the job title.
Teach a range of
HES
courses that satisfy general education coursework as well as major-specific coursework.
Plan, coordinate (including scheduling) and implement the intercollegiate athletic basketball program.
Create and implement culturally responsive and equity minded course material, teaching practices, and learning assessment strategies that enhance student success and persistence toward academic/career goals and that help close equity gaps and promote social justice.
Fulfill non-teaching assignments such as scheduled office hours, selection of textbooks, evaluation of course materials, curriculum development, student advising, program promotion, and participation on area and college committees and shared governance, including the Academic Senate.
Complete program reviews, budget development and the assessment of student learning at the course and program levels.
Assist in the marketing of the intercollegiate basketball program in local communities.
Recruit and coach students interested in and/or prepared to participate in an intercollegiate basketball program and meet the academic requirements of college: including high school visitations, networking with coaches in both high school and college and assisting in the development of recruitment materials.
Initiate athletic eligibility procedures for athletes participating in the program
Develop and implement an orientation program for athletes participating in the intercollegiate basketball program.
Implement an academic support system for athletes, including a study program, using existing College resources; conduct/promote advising and activities that support academic success and student persistence and retention
Travel with team to off-campus games and abide by all relevant federal and state driving regulations while driving during the course of employment
Monitor and/or address student conduct issues.
Develop/manage schedules and budgets
Participate in professional growth and remain current in subject area.
Seek and coordinate grants and special projects as approved by appropriate administrator.
May, in support of intercollegiate program, identify, develop, coordinate and instruct summer clinics and camps.
Ensure Title 5 programmatic compliance by working with other departmental faculty in selecting, organizing, convening, and utilizing the Health and Exercise Studies Advisory Committee.
Develop, supervise and implement fund-raising activities for intercollegiate athletics and the athletic department in collaboration with the college administration and
FRC
Foundation.
Participate in the selection of, supervise, and collaborate with assistant coach(es) and student employees.
Perform other duties as assigned

This work is performed in the classroom, office, and gymnasium and includes night and weekend duties. Instruction often involves many hours in the gymnasium, including moderate to heavy physical effort.
