Duties and Responsibilities
*Serve as liaison to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as the primary resource person for athletics aid awards.
*Responsible for the management of assigned Federal/State/Institutional aid program(s).
*Responsible for the evaluation of student financial aid applications in the awarding of Federal/State/Institutional aid and as new information is received. Information such as Petitions for Special/Unusual Circumstances, non-University resources, Department Tuition Waivers and Third Party Payments, and etc, within the guidelines of Federal and NCAA regulations.
*Monitor initial athletics aid awards and increases/reductions to ensure compliance with NCAA team and individual limitations. Includes review/processing of initial scholarship requests and requests for scholarship increases.
*Prepare, adjust and monitor list of total value of athletic scholarships/aid for each student-athlete for each academic year.
*Provide notification to student-athletes for all reduction, non-renewal of scholarships/aid. Handle all appeals of reduction/non-renewal of scholarships/aid.
*Flag and keep current all student-athletes receiving scholarships/aid in Banner System.
*Monitor and manage cost of attendance aid awards to ensure compliance with NCAA team and individual limitations. Includes assisting Athletics with preparing Cost of Attendance and Grant in Aid calculations.
*Responsible for reviewing, inputting, maintaining, and updating student-athlete financial aid information into the NCAA Compliance Assistant system and review ARMS (Recruiting, Compliance, and Process Automation System) requests as the financial aid representative.
*Provide information regarding non-athletic financial aid opportunities to help prepare financial aid information for prospective student-athletes during the recruiting process.
*Serve as the primary contact and resource for student-athletes regarding financial aid information, questions, and concerns.
*Review and process all requests for student-athlete budget adjustments.
*Provide accurate and timely reports to Athletic Business Office as requested for auditing purposes and as requested by NCAA, affiliated conference and/or university administrators
Monitor and manage information relating to all student-athletes receiving outside aid.
*Responsible for coordinating with Athletics in determining aid exemptions per NCAA Bylaw 15.
*Responsible for semester and year ending reconciliation of funds for student athlete awards.
Plan, schedule, and conduct financial aid workshops when requested by programs, community organizations, and/or university departments.
*Respond to all student inquiries in a professional, clear, tactful, and articulate manner through written correspondence and verbal communications.
*Develop and write office policies and procedures to effectively and equitably administer assigned aid program(s) insuring compliance with applicable Federal/State/Institutional/NCAA regulations. Review annually and revise as needed.
*Comply with the rules of the NCAA and affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future.
*Pursue professional development activities (e.g. Federal training, PacFaa workships, NCAA Regional Rules Seminar) as required by changes in aid regulations and for personal development, which may require travel within the state or locations outside of the state.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in arts, sciences, business, education, or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for providing educational services, counseling, or other assistance to students and student groups including experience working with minority or disadvantaged groups; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of financial aid counseling/advising as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with awarding of financial aid and scholarships typical of an institution of higher education.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Considerable knowledge of programs and practices of student financial aid processes and their purposes and functions typical of an institution of higher education.
Considerable knowledge of the techniques and procedures involved in financial aid counseling/advising.
Considerable knowledge of the policies and regulations as applied to the awarding of financial aid and scholarships typical of an institution of higher education.
Ability to travel on and off island to attend professional development activities.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience in financial aid counseling and program responsibility in a college or university setting.
Knowledge and understanding of federal aid regulations to develop policies and procedures in relationship to the awarding of aid, monitoring of aid programs, and audit compliance.
Knowledge and understanding of student services programs, non-institutional resources for postsecondary education and University of Hawaii system.
Experience using a computerized financial aid information system.
Experience in NCAA Bylaw 15 regulations in regards to financial aid eligibility
