Job Description Summary

The Financial Analyst, reporting to the Director of Financial Operations in the Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics (DRIA), is responsible for a broad array of business and financial functions, including but not limited to performing financial analyses, monitoring budgets, financial transactions and cash flow, and human resources support. Key responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data to report on DRIA's financial status; developing reports and report templates for Divisional analysis and operational use; utilizing university financial systems for input of budget and ongoing journal entries; support of a division-wide metrics reporting process; and HR Analyst related functions within Workday.

As a member of the DRIA finance team, the Financial Analyst is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial records; assisting in the preparation of financial projections and reports including all NCAA and Federal reporting requirements; and supporting the annual budget, five-year plan, and quarterly forecast processes.

Job Responsibilities

• Budget/Forecast: "Work with the Director and Assistant Director of Financial Operations, Financial Analyst, and department/unit heads to establish budget goals and five-year plans, ensure budgeted goals are met, oversee forecast revisions, and provide clear communication to department/unit heads. This includes preparing budget planning templates for department/unit heads, preparing reports for executive leadership, understanding and communicating potential risks or opportunities, and recommending improvements to the budget and forecast process.
• EADA and NCAA-AUP Reports: Responsible for compiling data for the annual NCAA GAAP report, annual federal Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) submission, and various NCAA reports.
• Ad Hoc Reports: Provide financial analysis for relevant issues that could impact the Division and manage the Division’s reporting to support business needs. Create ad-hoc reports to analyze financial information and develop recommendations.
• Financial Processes: Monitor transactions and report financial results for purchase orders, travel reimbursements, p-cards, journal entries, tax calculations, payroll related transactions, and other payment forms including inter-university transfers. May manage Division deliverables and liaison with other university departments for business-related transactions. Attend campus meetings and trainings to keep abreast of new information regarding financial processes.
• Metrics Reports: Support metrics reporting process that includes working with partners to identify, compile, analyze, and present key performance indicators with the goal of automating the collecting and reporting of KPIs.
• Reconciliation: Assist in the reconciliation of transactions on the general ledger, including but not limited to recreation, racquet centers, ticket office, and business operations. Resolves all variances, compiles a list of necessary adjustments with backup documentation, and prepares and inputs journal entries as needed.
• HR Oversight: Serve as Workday HR Analyst and assist the Director of Financial Operations by entering new job requisitions for temporary positions, salary analysis for new staff hires, contract review, and auditing of open staff and temp positions.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Degree in Business, Public Administration, Finance or Accounting preferred. CPA preferred. Experience with budget development and analysis or accounting, within an academic or non-profit environment is required.

Proficient knowledge of Excel is required, particularly proven ability to create spreadsheets, manage, and analyze data using pivot tables, charts, and graphs is required. Working knowledge of Hyperion, Smart View, and Workday preferred. The candidate must have thorough knowledge of financial, budgetary, and procurement procedures.

Must have experience in problem solving, independently determining method for completion of new projects, and be able to work through tasks.
