Position Title: Football Chain Crew (Part-time, Temporary)

Department: Football

Campus Location:  Washburn University

Position Summary:  The football chain crew plays a critical role in accurately managing down markers and chains during a game, assisting officials in measuring the line of scrimmage and the distance needed for a first down. Crew members must possess technical knowledge, physical stamina, and attention to detail.

Essential Functions:
The primary responsibility is to assist game officials in marking the line of scrimmage and the line to gain using specialized sideline equipment, under the direct supervision of the officials.
• To serve as the official group responsible for managing the down markers and the 10-yard chain to indicate the line of scrimmage and the required distance for a first down.
• To follow instructions from game officials, particularly the Head Linesman, to maintain accurate and timely placement of the equipment.
• Set up, inspect, and accurately place the down marker and chains according to official instructions.
• Move quickly and accurately to reset the down marker and chains after each play, ensuring they are in alignment with the ball.
