Job Duties
The Head Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the program to cultivate and maintain a nationally competitive athletic program. Key responsibilities include but not limited to; coaching, developing game strategies, planning and conducting practices, scouting, and recruiting. The role also encompasses ensuring student-athlete welfare, monitoring academic performance and compliance, and adhering to NCAA, conference, and university regulations. Additional duties include fundraising, public relations, budget management, and various administrative tasks, with a strong emphasis on supporting student-athlete academic achievement, retention, and graduation.
The Head Coach will embrace and model a positive coaching philosophy and associated techniques, insisting on a culture of respect and positive communication. The Head Coach will demonstrate an on-going commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion through hiring practices, training and development programming, campus collaborations or participation in university/divisional projects or initiatives.
The Head Coach will be responsible for promoting the holistic development of the student-athlete; the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, promoting a culture of compliance, including adherence to all department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the university, the MEAC, and the NCAA amongst staff, student-athletes and representatives of athletics interest.
The successful candidate will travel for both recruiting and team travel. The work schedule requires a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and evenings. The physical requirements for work is medium demand, including lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent carrying/lifting objects.
The successful candidate will be responsible to ensure compliance with NSU, Commonwealth of Virginia, NCAA and MEAC rules, regulations and policies.
Minimum Qualifications
• Degree in higher education or equivalent professional playing experience or seven years collegiate coaching experience.
• Demonstrated experience with student-athlete development.
• Proven record of adherence to NCAA academic and compliance regulations.
• A successful criminal background check is required.
Additional Considerations
Previous NCAA Division I head coaching experience or minimum 10 years of professional playing experience. Ten years of coaching experience at the FBS or FCS level. Track record of program success. Demonstrated recruiting contacts in the state of Virginia.
