Job Description

The General Manager and Chief Revenue Officer is a new role within the Athletics Department and will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the department’s financial operations, revenue-generating operations and name image and likeness (

NIL

) efforts and budget. This position will work alongside the Athletic Director to ensure that the Athletic department financial outlook is positioned to ensure financial health, foster new revenue opportunities, and align the department’s fiscal goals with the mission of both Athletics and the University, while recognizing the budgetary constraints.

 

 The General Manager and Chief Revenue Officer will manage other senior leaders in the Athletics Department including the Deputy Athletic Director of Business Development and the Deputy Athletic Director of Finance. The General Manager and Chief Revenue Officer will collaborate with other members of the Athletic Department, as well as executive leaders and colleagues in Finance, Facilities, Academics, Schools and Colleges and other academic and administrative units, to ensure the Athletic Department is meeting its contribution to the overall University student athlete experience and University goals. The ideal candidate is creative, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment independently and within a team. The individual should also be highly organized, detail-oriented, a strong multi-tasker and able to support executive priorities confidentially and deferentially.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, sports management, or a related field. (

MBA

or advanced degree preferred) .

Minimum of ten years’ progressive experience in operations management, finance, and leadership roles or a combination of education and relevant experience, preferably in a collegiate athletics environment.

Strong understanding of

NCAA

regulations, conference operations, and higher education financial practices.

Skills and Knowledge

Strong financial acumen.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders. Ability to interpret, apply and steward Syracuse University athletic brand.

Proven track record in identifying and implementing new revenue opportunities.

Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Executive presence and capability of working at the most senior levels at the

University and with outside organizations.

Excellent attention to detail.

Calm under pressure.

Can manage stressful situations in a solution-oriented way with a positive attitude.

Comfortable working with confidential content.

Must also have the ability to oversee and execute multiple projects simultaneously while working effectively under the pressure of last-minute deadlines and changing priorities.

Proactive and takes initiative.

Functions effectively, both independently and as a member of a team, and tight timelines.

Must be outcome driven, resourceful and committed to collaboration.

Professional and collegiate experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Oversight of Financial and Revenue-Generating Operations

Oversight of all financial and revenue generating areas. Lead the strategic planning, implementation, and management of all financial and revenue-generating activities within Athletics. Develop and pursue new revenue opportunities on campus, within the community, and as a representative to the Atlantic Coast Conference (

ACC

) and other organizations. Monitor and analyze revenue streams to maximize growth and sustainability.

Management of Athletic Business Office

Oversight/supervision of the Athletic Business Office to ensure fiscal accountability and compliance with institutional, conference, and

NCAA

standards. Oversee budget planning, execution, and monitoring to ensure alignment with Athletics and University objectives. Ensure all financial operations meet or exceed established goals for revenue and budgeting.

Cross-Departmental and University Collaboration

Coordinate with Athletics department staff, including Finance, Advancement and External Affairs, Facilities, and Academic Affairs, to support revenue generation and financial operations. Serve as a key liaison with senior university leaders, fostering alignment between Athletics and the broader institutional mission. Provide leadership in promoting innovative financial strategies that drive operational excellence.
