The Graduate Assistant will serve as the primary athletic communications contact for assigned sports and assist with the promotion, coverage, and storytelling efforts of the University of Evansville Athletics Department. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience in media relations, strategic communications, content creation, statistics, and brand development while working in a fast-paced NCAA Division I environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Graduate Assistant will assist in all aspects of athletic communications, media relations, and content development, including:

Strategic Communications & Media Relation s

• Serve as the primary athletic communications contact for assigned sports.
• Manage all aspects of media relations, including game notes, press releases, feature stories, statistics, and media opportunities.
• Coordinate media requests, interviews, and press availability for coaches and student-athletes.
• Maintain strong working relationships with coaches, student-athletes, staff, media members, and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Missouri Valley Conference and NCAA offices regarding statistical reporting, awards nominations, and record accuracy.

Strategic Communications & Media Relation s

• Serve as the primary athletic communications contact for assigned sports.
• Manage all aspects of media relations, including game notes, press releases, feature stories, statistics, and media opportunities.
• Coordinate media requests, interviews, and press availability for coaches and student-athletes.
• Maintain strong working relationships with coaches, student-athletes, staff, media members, and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Missouri Valley Conference and NCAA offices regarding statistical reporting, awards nominations, and record accuracy.

Content Development & Brand Enhancement

• Develop compelling written and digital content that promotes student-athletes, coaches, and athletic programs.
• Collaborate with coaches and staff to create engaging in-season and off-season storytelling initiatives.
• Support strategic communications efforts that enhance the visibility and brand of assigned sports programs.
• Assist with website updates, content management, and digital communications initiatives.
• Contribute to department-wide communications campaigns, major announcements, and postseason promotion efforts.

Statistics & Event Management

• Coordinate and manage game statistics and statistical reporting for assigned sports.
• Maintain accurate rosters, biographies, records, statistics, historical archives, and media guides.
• Assist with game-day operations and media coordination for home athletic events.
• Ensure NCAA and conference reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time.

Department Support

• Travel with assigned teams as needed, serving as the on-site communications contact for media relations and content support.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support recruiting, ticket sales, community engagement, and fan experience initiatives.
• Assist with coverage and promotion of additional athletic programs as assigned.
• Support special events and department-wide projects within the Athletic Communications Office.

• Perform all responsibilities in accordance with University of Evansville, NCAA, and Missouri Valley Conference rules and regulations.
• Maintain a commitment to ethical conduct, professionalism, and student-athlete welfare.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• Admission to, or eligibility for admission into, a University of Evansville graduate program.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and sports communications.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital communication platforms.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with NCAA Live Stats or comparable statistical software.
• Previous athletic communications, sports information, or media relations experience.
• Experience with graphic design software and content creation platforms.
• Experience with website content management systems and social media strategy.
• Knowledge of NCAA Division I athletics and Missouri Valley Conference operations.
• Photography, videography, or digital storytelling experience.
