Summary of Job Duties:
Learning Specialist Graduate Assistants are responsible for assisting the Educational Enrichment Services Staff with providing individualized support to a select group of student-athletes with learning concerns. The following duties/responsibilities may be required of each graduate assistant:
• Provide academic skill instruction to student-athletes with learning difficulties/disabilities.
• Assist with screening and reviewing of individual academic skill levels.
• Teach students effective learning strategies, such as test taking and note taking skills, on an individual basis.
• Assist student-athletes in obtaining and utilizing campus resources (Learning Center, Disability Services, etc.)
• Monitor nightly study hall in the Jerry & Gene Jones Family Student-Athlete Success Center - assist with and maintain order, facilitate appropriate learning environment, and direct traffic
• Attend bi-weekly learning specialist and OSAS staff meetings
• Assist in collaboration of departmental events and work in a group to complete assigned tasks, such as the Student-Athlete Graduation Receptions
• Assist with tutoring program as needed
• Ability to demonstrate flexibility and empathy
• Other duties as assigned
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education by start of employment
Enrollment and/or acceptance in a University of Arkansas graduate program
Cumulative grade point average of 3.000 or better
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling or English
Possess high self-awareness and high emotional intelligence
Teaching or tutoring experience in a one-on-one or group setting
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Excellent communication and computer (Microsoft Office) skills
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet established work deadlines
Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends
