Texas Lutheran University invites applications for a Head Acrobatics & Tumbling Coach.   

The Head Coach is responsible for directing and administrating all aspects of the sport’s program

including coaching, recruitment, and monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes. 

 

Responsibilities include:

Administrative

1. Demonstrate knowledge of the sport through excellence in coaching.

2. In consultation with the Director of Athletics or designee:

   • Select, supervise and evaluate the assistant or graduate assistant coach.
   • Manage sport budget.
   • Market and promote the Acrobatics & Tumbling sport program.
   • Participate in athletic department major fundraising efforts.
   • Develop a sport schedule.

3. Responsible for adhering to and documenting compliance with the policies and regulations of the College, Department of Athletics, and NCAA; responsible for the orientation of student-athletes and boosters to these guidelines.

4. Oversee the conduct and discipline of student-athletes.

5. Plan and implement all practices and competitions.

6. Meet team specific annual recruitment goal of student-athletes.

7. Supervise pre-season and post-season conditioning.

8. Maintain a regular on-campus presence year-round in which above duties are carried out.

9. Maintain professional conduct.

10. Uphold the values expected of a Texas Lutheran University employee as outlined in the TLU employee handbook.

11. Situation appropriate professional attire required at all times.

12. Assist in Department of Athletics fundraising events.

13. Abide by all compliance and regulatory expectations of the department, including but not limited to:

    • Texas Lutheran University Athletics compliance.
    • NCAA Division III Bylaws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Title IX & CLERY Act Regulations.

14. Ensure that the program adheres to the rules and regulations of the Athletic Conference.

 

Compliance Responsibilities

Responsible for knowledge and implementation of NCAA rules and regulations in the areas of amateurism, eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, playing and practice seasons, and awards and benefits. Coaches are expected to fully cooperate and participate in compliance related policies and procedures, within the institution and NCAA guidelines.  The Head Coach’s responsibilities include:

1. Attend and participate in education meetings.
2. Review NCAA rules with student-athletes when necessary and reinforce the importance of compliance.
3. Facilitate the provision of all information necessary to determine prospective student-athlete eligibility. 
4. Provide complete off-campus contact and evaluation request forms.
5. Monitor the permissible number of contacts and evaluations utilized.
6. Provide complete and accurate expense reports.
7. Provide complete and accurate required information for all official visits.
8. Declare playing and practice seasons and submit to the Director of Athletics for review and approval.
9. Ensure team’s compliance with NCAA rules related to playing and practice seasons including weekly athletically-related activity logs.
10. In cooperation with the Director of Athletics, monitor the scheduling process, verifying that the schedule meets NCAA and conference scheduling requirements and missed class time policies.
11. Educate student-athletes regarding NCAA regulations governing employment.
12. Annually pass the NCAA Coach’s Recruiting Exam.
13. Follow the established process for renewal and non-renewal of athletically-related Financial Aid.
14. Annually declare and receive approval from the Director of Athletics and President for athletically related income.
15. Ensure compliance with NCAA Bylaws regarding uniform logos, complimentary tickets and summer camps.

 

Management

1. Make hiring and firing decisions.
2. Provide supervision, development, and evaluation of staff.
3. Participate in formulation of budgets and ensure that department operates within approved budgetary parameters.
4. Ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures

Professionalism

1. Maintain a professional image
2. Keep the work environment neat and orderly
3. Maintain a safe environment through adherence to all safety procedures

Teamwork

1. Work as a team player, supporting and assisting other employees
2. Identify and participate in resolution of departmental/institutional problems with continuous quality improvement as a goal

Qualifications:

I.           Education                   

  Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree in Coaching, Sport/Athletic Management, Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Education, or other closely related field desired.

II.         Experience                 

  1 to 3 years’ experience in coaching and/or athletic administration desired.

III.        Knowledge, Skills & Abilities  

Strong interpersonal skills              

Considerable judgment is required to work independently and make decisions based on precedent and university policy

 Ability to work toward general results, devising new methods, modifying or developing standard procedures to meet new conditions. 

Must be able to maintain confidentiality
