Job Summary
The Head Athletic Performance Coach and Assistant Men’s Ice Hockey Coach will serve a dual role in the department of athletics. As the Head Athletic Performance Coach this position will manage the strength and conditioning programs for all our athletics teams as assigned in coordination with other designated staff members. As the Assistant Men’s Ice Hockey coach this position will assist the Head Ice Hockey Coach with all duties of successfully operating our men’s ice hockey program, including but not limited to recruiting student-athletes, assisting with training sessions/game preparation/game-day coaching, monitoring the student-athletes academically, and managing game day operations.

III
, Midwest Conference, Northern Collegiate Hockey Association, and Midwest Fencing Conference. Lawrence currently fields teams in 22 intercollegiate sports (24 after the start of the 2024-25 academic year) with approximately 365 scholar-athletes and is committed to a well-balanced program promoting excellence in both.
Responsibilities
When assuming the responsibilities of the Head Athletic Performance Coach, any and/or all the duties listed below are the responsibility of the position:
Develop and implement sport-specific strength, speed, and conditioning in-season, off-season, and pre-season, programs for Lawrence University intercollegiate athletics programs.
Supervise and monitor student-athletes while using facility.
Develop a fair and balanced weight room schedule for all varsity sports usage.
Develop systems for tracking attendance and progress in conjunction with specific sports coaches.
Encourage and motivate student-athletes to develop and understand the benefits of conditioning and strength training.
Develop and maintain knowledge and rules of the
NCAA
as it relates to this position.
Monitor the Weight Room, checking equipment functionality, safety, and general facility cleanliness.
Maintain proper
CSCCA
or
CSCS
strength and conditioning certifications as needed.
Attend appropriate Athletics departmental staff meetings.
When assisting the Head Men’s Ice Hockey Coach, any and/or all the duties listed below are the responsibility of the position:
Plan and direct athletics skill development for student-athletes.
Recruit student-athletes compatible with Lawrence University’s mission and the specific goals of the men’s ice hockey program.
Assist in advising student-athletes and staff of applicable
NCAA
,
NCHA
, and ice hockey specific rules, regulations, and University policies and ensure compliance of such regulations.
Assist the Head Coach in the review of practice and game video.
Monitor student-athlete academic performance and implement team, Athletics department, and University measures to support their academic performance.
Work with the University Athletic Trainers to ensure student-athletes receive proper medical and physical training services.
Coordinate all activities in preparation for scheduled competition.
Attend all team practices and home and away contests.
Qualifications
Must have a current and relevant
CSCCA
or
CSCS
certification.
Successful collegiate coaching/playing experience.
Past strength and conditioning experience.
Ability to recruit qualified student- athletes.
Bachelor’s degree required (Exercise Science or Kinesiology Preferred).
Master’s degree in health, exercise science or a related field is preferred.
Must have successful completion of criminal and
MVR
background check, meet University Authorized Driver Policy requirements, and favorable completion of reference checks.
