The Head Athletic Trainer implements the administration and promotion of athletic care within the guidelines of federal, state, and local laws and departments, division and college policies and procedures, medical standards and NCAA, and conference rules and regulations. This position reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and work with physicians, medical professionals, student-athletes, and personnel at other institutions to ensure athletes receive proper athletic conditioning, training, and emergency care.
Qualifications
The Head Athletic Trainer must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field of stidy and a minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably in a college setting. A Master's degree in a related field of study is preferred. The incumbent must demonstrate a strong commitment to the success of the student-athletes by providing holistic prevention, treatment, and overall care.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of sports, athletic training coaching methods, and NATA/NCAA rules and regulations.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
Strong computer skills in a Windows-based environment (Microsoft, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) including intermediate-level word processing and spreadsheet development.
Ability to work with diverse populations, as part of a team, and collaborate with others.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and supervise others
Ability and desire to meet the irregular hours and travel schedule required by the position.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
Duties and Responsibilities
Develops overall athletic training program for Edward Waters University, including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, and injury treatment and rehabilitation.
Implement the sports medicine program for the University as per the NATABOC Domain Descriptions and Task Statements, including- Injury/Illness Prevention and Wellness Protection, Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis, Immediate and Emergency Care, Treatment and Rehabilitation, Organizational and Professional Health and Well‐being.
Administers first aid and emergency care at games, transport athletes to doctors, maintains confidential correspondence with the physician and his her supporting staff, completes required insurance forms, and grants physicians referrals
Schedules and coordinates athletic training staff and students for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions
Follow the University’s policy & procedure and protocols.
Determine medical staffing coverage for practice and contests, ensure medical staffing coverage of events, and travels with and provide medical services for Edwards Waters University sports teams.
Provides supervision of assistant athletic trainer(s), graduate assistant athletic trainers, and student athletic trainers
Collaborates with the Athletic Director or designee in the development of the athletic training program budget.
Coordinates up-to-date documentation, filing, and maintenance of all medical-related records.
Coordinates athlete eligibility certification with Associate Director of Athletes
Provides guidance to campus on risk management, privacy rules, NATA guidance, and NCAA rules
Ensures compliance with all Edwards Waters University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations governing intercollegiate athletics
Enforces Training Room rules
Participates in designated staff functions including job-related–services training
Maintenance of equipment and facility upkeep.
Irregular hours, outside work, and travel from the office to other locations are required regularly.
