About the Job
Job Description

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Athletics Department is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Head Athletic Trainer to oversee the delivery of athletic training services across all varsity sports programs. This position plays a vital role in supporting the health, safety, and well-being of UAF student-athletes by providing comprehensive care while also carrying out the administrative duties assigned to the Healthcare Administrator in alignment with NCAA regulations.

Serving within a collaborative, student-centered athletics environment, the Head Athletic Trainer will supervise and mentor a team of athletic trainers and interns while partnering closely with strength and conditioning professionals, athletics leadership, sport coaches, and campus partners. Through strong leadership and effective collaboration, this role directly contributes to student-athlete success and advances the broader mission and values of the UAF Athletics Department.

Success in this role requires a strong balance of leadership and collaboration. The successful candidate will serve as both an effective team leader and an engaged team member, partnering closely with sports medicine staff to prevent, evaluate, and treat injuries across UAF’s athletic programs. Thriving in this position also requires flexibility to support mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and team travel. Exceptional time management, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively supervise personnel are essential for excelling in this dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in athletic training or related field and five years related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional licensure may be required that is commensurate with the appropriate level. NATABOC (National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification) certification required.

National Athletic Trainers Association Certification (this includes CPR)
Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (Not required but preferred)

Position Details:

This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.
