The Head Athletic Trainer will directly supervise the Assistant Athletic Trainer, student staff and interns, and will assist the Senior Assistant Director of Facility Operations and Risk Management with risk management initiatives for the department and overall program advancement. This role also manages the purchase, maintenance and inventory of first aid and safety equipment and supplies, the documentation of all accident reports and SOAP notes, and will assist the administration with the compliance of OSHA standards and other pertinent topic areas related to public health. Must be available for occasional Sport Club travel as team needs and budget allows. It is necessary for this position to be available for a variable work schedule that includes nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours depending upon needs of the Recreation Center.

Staff Supervision:
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, schedule and evaluate the Assistant Athletic Trainer, student assistants and interns.
Schedule additional certified athletic trainers as needed for Sport Club competitions and event coverage.
Athletic Training Care:
On-site care of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation.
Assess risk of injury, perform evaluation, self-care implementation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
Provide accommodation recommendations related to sport for student athletes, members and guests with restrictions or limitations.
Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies. Provide concussion baseline assessment and screening for Sport Club athletes when requested and make referrals as needed.
Develop sports related educational programs for Sport Clubs upon request.
Order equipment and supplies to ensure RICC and first aid kits are fully stocked and ready for check out, conducting regular inventory and tracking supply usage.
Risk Management:
Serves as department CPR/AED/First Aid instructor trainer and teach staff and community classes.
Lead department emergency plan audits for staff and assist the Senior Assistant Director of Facility Operations and Risk Management with risk assessment.
Ensure RICC’s treatment areas meet National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) standards.
Document and manage all accident and injury reports on a timely basis.
Perform monthly AED equipment audits and track the status using the AED Concierge online tracking system.
Administrative:
Attend and actively participate in all required engagement opportunities.
Participate in other departmental or divisional initiatives, programs and committees as required.
Participate in the development of ideas and suggestions for Recreation Services and facility improvements.
Ensure the Recreation Center’s facilities, equipment and programs are meeting or exceeding quality standards for the department by using and attending its offerings.
Assist with additional initiatives, assignments and special projects as needed.
Engage in annual diversity and inclusion training.
Know, recognize, and follow the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the university and its employees, and the regulations of the sport club governing bodies, Health Insurance and Accountability Act, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field as required by NATA or equivalent combination of education and experience as a substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
Three years of professional experience working as an ATC. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
Certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Board Certification.
Athletic Training Licensure in state of Colorado, current and in good standing, or ability to obtain such within 30 days.
Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification with American Red Cross or ability to obtain such within 30 days.
Current CPR/AED/First Aid instructor trainer certification with American Red Cross or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Able to work a variable schedule to include nights, weekends and extended hours depending upon job necessity and possible holidays.
