This position reports to the Athletic Director and will provide management and oversight of the university athletic training program. Oversee assistant athletic trainers provided by contract, manage athletic training budget, coordinate and schedule team practice and game coverage assignments. This is a Full-time, 11 position between July and May annually, with some limited hours as needed in June to address administrative matters.

This position reports to the Athletic Director and will provide management and oversight of the university athletic training program. Oversee assistant athletic trainers provided by contract, manage athletic training budget, coordinate and schedule team practice and game coverage assignments. This is a Full-time, 11 position between July and May annually, with some limited hours as needed in June to address administrative matters.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The Head Athletic Trainer will have the responsibility to set procedural expectations for training activities and services; carefully maintain records pertaining to medical forms, injuries and treatment; coordinate training schedule and evaluation/treatment care in cooperation with trainers and physicians; communicate and educate coaching staff and faculty regarding restrictions and return to play plans; perform administrative duties in budgeting, scheduling of training staff, evaluation of program and supplies/equipment maintenance/orders; supervise student athletic training staff and provide oversight of 3-4 athletic trainers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems.
• Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
• Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
• Athletic trainers should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
• Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ensure compliance of Federal Rules and Regulations (HIPAA) regarding confidentiality and electronic communication
• Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision, with the ability to multi-task
• Knowledge of the NAIA

Qualifications / Education / Experience

• Masters’ degree
• Experience: 5-7 years of collegiate athletic training experience preferably at the collegiate level
• Certification/Licenses: Must be certified and possess state athletic training licensure, certification, or registration, NPI Number Required. Required - CPR/AED/First Aid certification
• Valid U.S. driver’s license
