Position Summary:
The Head Baseball Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and development
of the University’s intercollegiate baseball program. The successful candidate will recruit and
retain qualified student-athletes, provide effective coaching and mentorship, oversee program
operations, and promote academic, athletic, spiritual, and personal development among team members.

University’s Seventh-day Adventist mission and values while ensuring compliance with all
institutional and athletic association regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership and Coaching
• Provide leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the baseball program.
• Plan and conduct practices, conditioning programs, and competition strategies.
• Teach and develop fundamental and advanced baseball skills.
• Foster a positive team culture emphasizing character, discipline, accountability, and
sportsmanship.
• Monitor and evaluate student-athlete performance and development.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment and Retention
• Identify, recruit, and retain qualified student-athletes who align with Oakwood University’s
academic and spiritual mission.
• Establish relationships with high school, junior college, and club coaches.
• Coordinate recruiting visits, communications with prospective student-athletes and their
families.
• Support enrollment growth through strategic recruitment efforts.
Student-Athlete Development
• Promote academic achievement and monitor student-athlete academic progress.
• Mentor student-athletes in leadership, personal growth, and spiritual development.
• Encourage participation in community service and campus engagement opportunities.
• Collaborate with faculty and student support services to foster student success.
Program Administration
• Manage program budgets and assist with fundraising initiatives.
• Coordinate team travel, scheduling, equipment purchases, and game operations.
• Maintain accurate records and required reports.
• Ensure compliance with all University, conference, and athletic governing body policies and
procedures.
Staff and Community Relations
• Supervise assistant coaches, student workers, and volunteers as assigned.
• Promote the baseball program through community outreach, alumni engagement, camps, clinics, and
public appearances.
• Always Represent Oakwood University in a professional and Christian manner.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; Master’s degree preferred
• Demonstrated experience coaching baseball at the collegiate, professional, or comparable
level.
• Strong knowledge of baseball fundamentals, player development, and recruiting practices.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to mentor and develop student-athletes in a faith-based environment.
• Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and student success.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
• Experience managing budgets and fundraising activities.
• Knowledge of NAIA, NCCAA, NCAA, or similar collegiate athletic regulations.

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without

regular office hours and, as an exempt employee, working additional hours—including occasional

Working Conditions:
Essential responsibilities are primarily performed in a standard office environment with minimal
discomfort. Employees should expect irregular hours, including evenings and weekends. On-site
supervision of departmental operations may be required. When traveling, the employee may be
expected to utilize various modes of transportation, including trains, planes, and automobiles.
